Title: New win 10 installation
Post by: fralippo on December 26, 2016, 01:05:15 pm

I waited a couple of weeks for the new 2.07 version: now it's here and I will soon install on my new audio pc. Win 14393.0 with minimal drivers loaded. Question: is it possible to have Net 3.5 automatically installed from internet without worries for immediate Windows updates? New XXhe can stop that... but it has to run before.
What's best suggested path? Thanks.

Hello Peter, yes I read those instructions. I probably didn't express myself well enough... I wanted to know if it was possible to install Net 3.5 from the internet without "risks" of updates... anyway everything worked fine without internet connection with win 10 14393.0 on a USB key.

Unfortunately I've another problem, totally unrelated to XXhe. Maybe you could still give suggestions.
I installed drivers for my Xmos based usb/i2s card. Latest Thesicon v3.34.0
At the end I get error at attachment. I even installed Win 10 a second time, but it's still there.

A few minutes ago I tried installation on my other general PC, win 10 14393.576 version 1607, and here it worked perfectly fine!

Any suggestion? Thanks!

I can try to reason out what could be happening, but it will be faster to just try something, which I was going to advise anyway :

Go to XXHighEnd Settings, Output Section (click Refresh in there), and cause the "Drivers need not be Signed" text to appear next to Driver Signing field.

When it helps (which is what I expect) we can always see what caused the issue.

Peter

Ok, in output section, after Refresh I got what you can see at attachment. No help, but it's not clear what I can get with this function...

I tried this procedure:
http://ch-precision.com/images/firmwares/windows-10-driver-installation.pdf

It worked for a while and a few reboots, but later driver became unavailable again because not signed :-(

Press Change, reboot one time, press Refresh and look for the text "need not be Signed".
But apply that Reboot ! And then only look (via Refresh), and do not change again !!

Ok, done. Now I can see a question mark after driver signing. Pressing refresh I get: drivers need not be signed.

But under device I still don't find the right one. And still under device manager there is the Yellow triangle due to digital signature not verified. Error 52

Notice that the yellow question mark combined with the audio now working (that is what I assume) can spring from the former being related to a WDM device, while for audio you use the Kernel Streaming device (and you don't see that in Device Manager). So you could say : all OK (as long as you indeed have sound - and if not, try the KS device :)).

What I have read from XMOS is that they only for a few days now have the signed driver stuff. So that is the other subject ... You could have a too old version, or a not tweaked version or ... I don't know. So maybe investigate that too *if* still necessary.

Peter

No, unfortunately I got no sound with suggested procedure on XXhe.
But after several hours of work I think to have found the reason of the problem!
I copied the Win 10 x64 14393.0 ISO to a usb bootable memory key. To boot it I entered Asus MB BIOS: the usb memory is shown 2 times, under different names. One as "UEFI" followed by key name, and a second one without "UEFI".
I always installed by UEFI: Windows then worked PERFECTLY fine. I think I also did that on other PCs.
But this way, even with latest, signed, Thesycon v3.34.0 Xmos drivers, I got that damned yellow question mark!
Well, almost casually, I reinstalled the same usb memory key with the same Win without the UEFI: then Xmos driver worked perfectly fine! 100% reliable!
I repeated installation a second time to get confirmation of this. And I got it!

During these "interesting" hours I also downloaded win 10 x64 from MS website. Procedure can directly produce a bootable installation usb memory key. I noticed after installation that version is 14393.0
It looks like there are no embedded updates! They're only managed online.
