Title: Leonard Cohen's Old Ideas "Amen" Post by: Robert on November 11, 2016, 10:20:29 pm Well another music icon leaves us this year. I never listened to him until "Live in London" DVD.
I saw him live at the end of this tour and what a concert of incredible talent. I was stunned by his supporting musicians and singers. I also saw his last concert in Auckland(Nov 2013) which had a slightly different lineup and wasn't quite the same but unforgettable, this was 3 hours long. Anyway my point, I use "Amen" as one of my top tracks to evaluate audio in fact usually the first. I have both 16/44 and 24/44 versions. Preferring 16/44 to evaluate but listen to the 24/44 for pleasure. I like this track for its sparseness, clarity, detail and choice of sounds to use for comparison. Leonard has always been one of my all time favorites. I saw him once in Hamilton Ontario about 5 years ago. It was the beginning of his last 2 tours that brought him to London and that DVD. https://www.facebook.com/leonardcohen/ Has a final interview coinciding with the release of "You Want It Darker" his last album with the help of his son. Cohen's band with Sharon Robinson, Roscoe Beck, Bob Metzger with 3+ decades of playing together along with other virtuosos like the Webb Sister songbirds and Neil Larsen to name a few, perform his music as a true labor of love. Most of his albums offer great opportunity for system evaluation - both the electric and spiritual varieties. Goodbye Leonard. You are already missed :thanks: |
