Title: New headless audio PC - some advices please Post by: fralippo on September 02, 2016, 06:10:25 pm I completed my new DIY multibit no-os DAC and will soon build a dedicated pc based on a recent Asus MB and I7-6700K unlocked cpu.
Idea is to use a case with passive CPU cooler and a partially linear PSU, it'd be positioned in the audio rack, no monitor, mouse and keyboard. Win10 and XXhe2 software will be installed in a internal SATA 128GB SSD (RAM OS... in the future). This pc would be connected via Ethernet to the router, music library on a external USB 4GB HD connected to a little office pc (tiny, passively cooled, Asus UN45 also running Win10... maybe with linear PSU later) Some question about usage: - I imagine that XXhe should be set to be loaded automatically. How? - Mainly I will use the office pc to control the audio one. Via RDC? - Tablet. Once Peter briefly told me that it's better to control office pc with it and not audio pc directly. Why? Only to avoid wifi signals? Please let me know. Thanks! Title: Re: New headless audio PC - some advices please Post by: PeterSt on September 02, 2016, 06:49:38 pm Hi fralippo,
Let's see ... Quote - I imagine that XXhe should be set to be loaded automatically. No, why ? XXHighEnd.exe normally doesn't run anyway (during playback). With remore control in mind, start XXOSK.exe. From there push the buttons on it (largely the same as the shortcuts, like Alt-X to bring up XXHighEnd). Quote - Mainly I will use the office pc to control the audio one. Via RDC? Correct. Quote - Tablet. Once Peter briefly told me that it's better to control office pc with it and not audio pc directly. Why? Only to avoid wifi signals? That would be the main reason, yes. Btw not only the "signals" as such, but merely the relatively heavy processing in the Audio PC coming along with it. Ethernet (cable) can be very lean and has also been setup (by me) as very lean and the most lean during playback (Ethernet virtually switched off). Regards, Peter |
