Title: 07 | XXHighEnd Activation and how not to lose it Post by: PeterSt on January 25, 2016, 11:12:48 am The RAM-OS Disk comes with an Activated XXHighEnd for each of the OSes in there. The intended working of the RAM-OS, hence the booting from RAM and remove the Disk, is the connection of the music data elsewhere. Elsewhere : Another PC with connected Music Disks by any means or a NAS (Network Attached Storage). Watch out : A NAS does not work by guarantee at all. Not in our environment; Most probably each brand of NAS can work, but it is up to you to find out the how. They are not standardized as Windows (within) itself is. When the music resides elsewhere, we must be able to reach it. Often this goes per means of "sharing", hence on the PC where the music resides, that music Disks or Location is "shared". This sharing as such is related to the rights to receive or take part of the share. Now : It is 100% crucial that the means to share are NOT related to any Workgroup means. And, quite some features in (today's) Windows are, like the Home Group phenomenon. It is best to stay far from that as you may not be able to get that consistently running anyway. But point is : Your NAS too can demand to be part of such a Group and the first thing you'd attempt is change the "Workgroup" (or "Domain") of your Audio PC, so it can connect to the NAS. WRONG ! It must be the other way around. Your NAS and any other Sharing means must adapt to your Audio PC. Why is that ? Generally, your Audio PC by now has become a too complex box to be adjusted in easy fashion. So the OSes in there (5 at this time, but it will grow over time) relate to each other to some extent, but they sure all relate to that Share on the other side of your Ethernet cable. Thus, change one small thing at that other end and start booting into all the OSes at the Audio PC's end and changed all in there subsequently *AND* find your XXHighEnd deactivated 5 times ? Nah ... You don't want to spend the time to re-do this all 5 times as it takes you 2 hours if you get it working at all. Crucial : The RAM-OS Disk currently consists of 5x XXHighEnd Activation in the same fashion. This means that when something needs to change, you can change it 5 times exactly the same. At this moment this is hard to explain because it requires a (yet non-existent) example, but think like XXHighEnd.exe coming to you in a new version and all you need to do is copy that .exe to each of the OS locations. This can NOT work when you re-activated one of them so one of them has become different, with the additional handicap of you not knowing (did not keep track of) which one that is. So accept misery all over if you disobey this "Tutorial" or be neglective about it. The RAM-OS Disk has been created to cause the exact other way around : keep all consistently working without hassle (hassle that users without the Disk have, now and then). In a side note, also think about this : We can see that "XXHighEnd PC" customers never have problems with XXHighEnd Activation. This is because they leave their system be, rather than upgrading. This in itself is caused by "the box" which ever back came as a consistent whole to them. Now, the RAM-OS Disk is the same. But with one huge difference : it has been set up do versatile and flexible that upgrading in the future is 100 times more easy than for enyone else. This is because the environment is known to us and we know what can be upgraded and how and where. Of course this can only happen when you do not change the Disk (ok, you surely didn't think of that) which includes the Activations (you did not think about that either, but *this* is because it is new). When you got deactivated after all Well, super easy : Backup / Restore (http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=3480.0). So apply the restore part in there and all will be fine again. All you need to do is register your Settings as of now, so you can put those back to the Restored OS. Notice : When the OS is Restored from those original copies, obviously ALL is restored, thus also your Workgroup / Domain etc. See ? another reason not to change it, because you will imply an even longer time before you are up and running again. Notice again : SURE you can make a copy yourself but NOW you can forget easy and guaranteed assistance. Thus, obviously we can not know what you exactly did and when and whatfore etc. and what to change after (Restore). But if you did nothing, all is clear in advance. For you and for us ... This is all not law as such and you can do what you want because technically all will work. But one of the purposes of the RAM-OS Disk is to make life so much more easy. Like a new OS ? just dunk it in and compare (hey, within seconds after you downloaded/copied it, right ?!?). It should be clear : What you hunt for is the tweaking of that other side at the end of your Ethernet cable. Don't think your NAS is enforcing you to change the Workgroup. Think that the NAS can be changed and "struggle" as long as it takes to find out how. For those with a Windows Music Server (a PC running Windows with Music Disks connected by any means), there;s this Tutorial : Change from one integrated system to Music Server + Audio PC (Control) (http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=3211.0). That works and it doesn't take anything else than mentioned in there. No Home Groups or anything and the Workgroup does not even need to be the same. Lastly, the Workgroup of the RAM-OS OSes is WORKGROUP everywhere. This is just the default for the Windows Install. Don't change it. Also do not change the PC Name and don't change the account (Password is fine) as you will run into several things not working any more. Extra problem : Since you did not set up the OSes you won't even know where to be in case of sudden anomalies. |
