Title: W10074 won't install Post by: coliny on July 15, 2015, 09:09:29 am Have tried to install W10074 on a second laptop (Samsung S3511 core i3 3GB RAM). Install drive flashes and the Blue Window displays, install drive stops flashing and nothing else happens.
I know my install media is OK, I've tried both USB & DVD install. W7 is already installed & it can boot from a W7 DVD. Can't find anything in the bios causing W10074 not to install. BIOS is Phoenix SecureCore https://www.phoenix.com/docs/securecore_ds_en.pdf Must be something specific to this PC. I want to make it dual boot. If anyone has suggestion or had similar experience please reply. Title: Re: W10074 won't install Post by: AlainGr on July 15, 2015, 12:38:23 pm Hi Coliny,
It is hard to diagnose from distance, but I recall having trouble with using Acronis backup software back in 2012 when we received 15 Lenovo Twist laptops at the office. I can't remember what we had to do then, but it had something to do with protecting the system from tampering with another OS (Acronis is made with Linux). We were finally able to use Acronis for booting (with a USB key) after unblocking something in the Bios (or the UEFI), but I would recommend to go to a local store where the technician will be able to unlock that protection feature, unless it has to do with something else ? At least it you decide to try different things in the Bios, you should note on a piece of paper what the settings were before, just in case. It would not be fun if your laptop does not boot anymore, even with W7... Regards, Alain Title: Re: W10074 won't install Post by: coliny on July 15, 2015, 02:30:11 pm Thanks Alain
In BIOS - security - HDD Password is Locked. Its cleared for one boot by powering off & removing battery for 30 sec. But even this did not enable W10 install to continue. I've raised problem with SAmsung Support, maybe they will help. Colin Title: Re: W10074 won't install Post by: PeterSt on July 15, 2015, 02:51:08 pm Hi Colin,
I don't have a real answer, but maybe I'd try this for a first step only (!) : Remove the internal HDD/SSD from the boot list and retry with the DVD boot. This will tell you whether it is related to the presence of another OS in there (and W10 has quirks in that realm, which is one of the reasons that I advise not to apply Dual Boot stuff (I know, what to do with the laptop without too much hassle)). Regards, Peter Title: Re: W10074 won't install Post by: coliny on July 15, 2015, 04:40:33 pm Hi Peter
I've tried just DVD in boot list but same problem. This pc has fully up to date W7 whereas the pc I succeeded to set up a month ago did not have its W7 fully up to date. just wondering if a recent W7 update is causing the problem. Thanks Colin Title: Re: W10074 won't install Post by: PeterSt on July 15, 2015, 06:44:25 pm I can't imagine that, Colin.
Peter Title: Re: W10074 won't install Post by: coliny on July 17, 2015, 10:49:21 am I installed a blank hdd but W10 installation stops at blue window just as before. So nothing to do with dual boot or existing OS. Tried what few options there are in bios without success. Abandoning hope with this Samsung.

Not that it will help you, but it will help explaining why it may never work : http://www.windows10update.com/2015/06/secret-samsung-tool-disables-windows-update-on-pcs/ So to me it looks like this Samsung needs a special W10 version (which is not even uncommon for laptops). Sorry ... Peter Title: Re: W10074 won't install Post by: coliny on August 13, 2015, 05:27:54 pm Eventually I found out what was stopping installation on Samsung laptop. Could apply also to other PC's where installation freezes at blue window screen. I found post on web saying wifi card was causing the problem. I could not disable wifi in bios so found utube video on how to open samsung to enable wifi card removal and then W10074 installation proceeded OK, well not quite. I was doing dual boot install on W7 system and W10074 install would not accept partition for installation because drive was MBR not GPT. Well going to GPT would have meant wiping W7 so back on web for help & a surprising solution. I was trying to install from internal DVD drive, the answer was install from USB external DVD drive (maybe USB stick would also work). Isn't it nice to find useful info on web occasionally !

Colin, what a tour. But regarding that MBR etc. stuff ... I recall exactly the same from W8. Apparently nothing changed ... Regards, Peter PS: Yes, I read about that WiFi stuff too. But who is going to think about that ... |
