Title: 72 | Windows 10 Tutorials - Make Internet Explorer available Post by: PeterSt on June 08, 2015, 09:12:10 am Edit, December 2016 : This Tutorial rendered obsolete for XXHighEnd version 2.07 because all apps can now run during the Install of XXHighEnd. Edit, January, 2016 : The Tutorial originally was for Build 10074 of Windows 10. Later it appeared that - at least for Build 10586 - the Tutorial does not apply. So we have a new one, right below here. See for the old Tutorial for Build 10074 more below. For Windows 10 Build 10586 and beyond Remember, this now is about the Edge Browser which is an App and which won't run under our UAC changed Rights. First off, when the cable is not connected, up to XXHighEnd version 2.04 you will receive this error : (http://www.stordiau.nl/xxhighend/Activate14.png) (don't look at the 2.05 you see in the Title) From of 2.05 it will be this more nice message : (http://www.stordiau.nl/xxhighend/Activate15.png) Notice that we show you the above messages so you can differentiate from the "Windows 10" problem. When that occurs hence it was not setup for XXHighEnd and the Internet Communication required for Activation, this message will show : (http://www.stordiau.nl/xxhighend/Activate16.png) Now let's set that up properly : - RightClick the Start Button; - Select Control Panel; - In the top right "search box" type Default Programs and click the "Set your default programs" link : (http://www.stordiau.nl/xxhighend/Activate16a.png) - Click Internet Explorer and the large button "Set this program as default" (see mouse pointer) : (http://www.stordiau.nl/xxhighend/Activate17.png) Notice that you don't see happening much at this click on the large button (maybe it doesn't even do a thing). Click the large button "Choose defaults for the program" : (http://www.stordiau.nl/xxhighend/Activate19.png) If not all is checked automatically already, check all the boxes (also see the Check All under the blue logo) : (http://www.stordiau.nl/xxhighend/Activate20.png) And don't forget to click the Save button. You can leave the screen popping up now (for the setting of a next Default Program) and all should now work. Thus, click Activate in the left pane, and next click the PayPal button. (http://www.stordiau.nl/xxhighend/Activate22.png) (http://www.stordiau.nl/xxhighend/Activate21.png) Done for Windows 10 Build 10586 (and probably beyond). For Windows 10 Build 10074 Anno June 2015 in Windows 10 nothing much works for real. But we can get it were we want for our Audio. Here's a few steps necessary when we are going to Activate XXHighEnd, which requires a browser. However, Microsoft created that "Project Spartan" as how it is called today (later Edge) - for this, and this is an "app". But apps won't run in our situation, with the UAC (User Account Control) at the lowest level. So we are going to make old Internet Explorer the program for this Activation task. Let's go : First we are going to put a Command Prompt icon on our desktop. And yes, this is the same as RightClick on the Start Button, choose Run and next type cmd in there : (http://www.stordiau.nl/XXHighEnd/MakeDos01.png) (http://www.stordiau.nl/XXHighEnd/MakeDos02.png) BUT we will soon see that even RightClick on the Start Button won't do a thing and in that case we will be locked out of everything and all. With the Command Prompt Shortcut on our desktop we will always be able to survive. Start Explorer and navigate to c:\windows\system32\ : (http://www.stordiau.nl/XXHighEnd/MakeDos06.png) Find cmd.exe, RightClick on it and choose Send To - Desktop : (http://www.stordiau.nl/XXHighEnd/MakeDos07.png) Watch out : It is quite easy (somehow) to have the cm.exe selected at first, RightClick it but next the selection vanishes and no menu you see above appears (one appears but it is different). So cause the line to be properly selected. Now we have a Command Prompt (shortcut) on our desktop. Next we are going to make Internet Explorer the default for HTTP protocol communication, instead of the Project Spartan brower app, which can't work for us; Start the Command Prompt, go to th root with cd \ [enter] (see below) and now start typing cd pro but don't use the [enter] key this time. Instead use the Tab key and see that it automatically comes up with the first folder which matches our given "pro" : (http://www.stordiau.nl/XXHighEnd/Spartan00a.png) We don't want this one, so we hit Tab again : (http://www.stordiau.nl/XXHighEnd/Spartan00b.png) And this is the one we need and at now hitting [enter] we enter that (sub)folder. (http://www.stordiau.nl/XXHighEnd/Spartan00c.png) In there we type this : (http://www.stordiau.nl/XXHighEnd/Spartan00d.png) followed with [enter] and now Internet Explorer will start. Now find the little blue maintenance wheel in the right hand side, click that and choose Internet Options : (http://www.stordiau.nl/XXHighEnd/Spartan01.png) (http://www.stordiau.nl/XXHighEnd/Spartan02.png) Above you see that we selected the Programs tab and we also clicked the Set associations button (see mouse arrow). This opens the screen you see at the right. See those two empty check boxes ? See the Project Spartan besides them ? :nea::nea::nea: ... must be like this : (http://www.stordiau.nl/XXHighEnd/Spartan03.png) Watch out please ... It *seems* that these (topmost) two empty checkboxes did not show at first : (http://www.stordiau.nl/XXHighEnd/Spartan02a.png) but it was probably overlooked because there's a scrollbar. Anyway, associate those too to Internet Explorer (check the checkboxes). If not possible/visible the first time, then in a second Edit round. (and all with the notice that we could not mimic the sequence from the start because the 2 checkboxes which were checked at first now won't let themselves uncheck ) Confirm with Save. Now Activation in XXHighEnd will start Internet Explorer to do the job. Remember how we put the Command Prompt to our Desktop ? If you like, you can do the same with Internet Explorer. Above you have seen where it is, so you can navigate to it with (File) Explorer. It is named iexplore.exe. |
