Title: Remote Desktop Connection/Minimise OS/Wireless issue Post by: boleary on January 26, 2015, 11:26:22 pm So today I played around with an RDC connection. To set it up I went into full OS mode. Everything worked very well; both the musicPC and the ControlPC were connected to my LAN via wireless. However, when I minimized the OS via XXHighend, I could not get the wireless to work on the MusicPC. When I was in full OS mode I unchecked "Stop Remaining Services" and "Stop All Services." I checked "Keep LAN Services," "Keep WiFi-Direct services," and "Use Remote Desktop." Then I went into minimise OS mode and lost all wireless connectivity. In minimised I went into the "Network Center" and it said that "Network List Service" was turned off. When I hit the button to turn it on I got "The Dependncy Service or Group Failed to Start." Any suggestions?

The culprit here will be your wireless connection of the musicPC; That should be wired. WiFi <- Router -> LAN Cable -> Audio PC (musicPC) Control PC -> WiFi Next LAN must always be On (Keep LAN - Persist) plus Use Remote Desktop Services. This should help ... My router is on the first floor, in the kitchen. Will be unworkable to run a cable to the third floor unless I go outside the building. Hoping to avoid that I tried with a usb wireless adapter in the audioPC. Again in full OS mode it works great with RDC. I can play unattended and have complete funtionality with the controlPC (a laptop) However, in minimized mode, keeping the LAN Service/Persist and RDC connection checked in XX, as well as unchecking Stop All Services, I loose wireless connectivity. Sure would be nice in the next version if that could be sorted out. :)

That already has been worked out. It is named "Normal OS". yeah, well ... Title: Re: Remote Desktop Connection/Minimise OS/Wireless issue Post by: PeterSt on January 27, 2015, 03:48:38 pm A different response :
Get your self a 40$ (or less) little router (or access point I think), throw that in the corner of your listening room somewhere and proceed from there. IOW, why go via your main router ? And you still can (for internet access) via your "control" device. So *that* can do WiFi to your main router. The Audio PC connects to your litter personal in-room router. That rouyer via cable to the Audio PC. And the control device has two LAN (both WiFi) connections ... Should work. another possible route via the powerline (from there in your listening room with an ethernet conncetion to the audio PC) http://www.pcworld.com/article/164241/wifi_powerline_together.html Joachim Title: Re: Remote Desktop Connection/Minimise OS/Wireless issue Post by: boleary on January 27, 2015, 03:57:07 pm So, Peter, the little router I put in the room would have a wireless connection to the main router in the kitchen? Sorry for being a bit uninformed about this stuff. Thanks Joachim that may work too.
Title: Re: Remote Desktop Connection/Minimise OS/Wireless issue Post by: PeterSt on January 27, 2015, 05:10:36 pm You can do that too (now your acces point is (behaving as) a repeater). So Yes. And could be somewhat more "direct" to setup in that control device (now you'll have one LAN connection in there only).
Title: Re: Remote Desktop Connection/Minimise OS/Wireless issue Post by: boleary on January 27, 2015, 06:21:10 pm Great, will give the "repeater" a try.
Title: Re: Remote Desktop Connection/Minimise OS/Wireless issue Post by: Jud on March 03, 2015, 03:05:52 am Took a look at this and yeah, it works (even in minimized mode - besides what Peter mentioned, have to enable wifi direct in XXHE to get one of the necessary Win services for RDC to keep running when the OS is minimized).
The bad news for me is that the "control PC" (my MacBook Pro) is what's connected to the main system, while the "audio PC" is up in my office running the desktop system. So I'm still restricted, for the main system, to XXHE running on Win 7 on the laptop. Oh well - still pretty nice. :) |
