Title: Windows 8: no audio devices installed
Post by: michaeljeger on January 08, 2015, 08:49:15 pm
Hi

On my new install, XXHighEnd Player is working perfect.

The funny thing though is that in windows in sounds, I get the message that no audio devices are installed.

I installed the drivers as instructed but somehow Windows does not get it that the audio devices are installed.

I attached a screen shot of my devices and the sound properties.

What I tried to solve:
- Uninstall and re-install drivers

This is really strange.

I hope someone has an idea.

Regards, Michael

Michael,

Unless you have no sound this is unimportant. Ok, when you want to play with WASAPI it is, because I don't think that will work. (WASAPI is officially "Engine#3", Kernel Streaming is "Engine#4").

But what has happened is that the first part of the Driver Install has not worked - don't ask me why. Well, that is my guess because I have never seen it.
Didn't see errors in the log during the install of the driver ? (I think you can scroll through it when it says it has finished).

Strange ...

Hello Peter

This is some funny windows stuff going on here.

So the screen shot I did was done from Microsoft Remote Desktop Software.

So it seems that when going Remote, the Audio Drivers are not shown anymore. Instead there is a Remote Audio Driver showing up. When I directly access XXHIghEnd PC (without remote) the sound device is shown again.

What kind of funky stuff is going on. Ok I am a Noob with Remote Access but this behavior is really unexpected.

Maybe I have to change something in the settings.

.......

And here the solution:

I have to configure Remote Desktop to play sounds on Remote Device. If not the problems start.

So hopefully this will help somebody.

Problem solved.

Many thanks Peter for responding so quickly.

Good evening.

Michael

Michael - aha.

I must say that to me it looks the other way around. So in the RDC settings you can denote "bring sound to remote" or something. And this is not what you would want. I mean, in that case you can play from the remote (so connect DAC to the remote) but I doubt that you are doing it like that. Should work for a fast enough connection, though I never tried. But is also useless of course.
So all these settings like printing and hdd's and what not should all be left to default (not bring to the remote) except for Clipboard - that can be very handy.

Now I'm not sure what you mean with "If not the problems start".

Hi Peter

Everything solved now.

It was really a config problem of the Remote Access Software on the Mac.

Quite funny that the remote software would do such a thing like showing different audio devices, if you go remote.

Well I guess I have learned something new then.

Thanks again Peter.

regards, Michael

Michael, for your understanding (if not already) :

Such an audio device allows routing from the host (which would be your audio PC) to the remote. Next you can play the sound through the remote's speakers (or maybe digital-out but I never tried that).
