Title: How to install the music on LAN (dynamically stopped / started) Post by: juanpmar on January 07, 2015, 03:17:17 pm I wonder if someone uses a LAN to send the music to the Music PC and how the installation is done. No matter if it is still an imperfect solution. The idea is to participate in finding a way to use the LAN and to explain it in an easy way.
If we find suitable answers, we will put it in the Useful Topics for others to benefit from it. Any help will be appreciated :) Juan Title: Re: How to install the music on LAN (dynamically stopped / started) Post by: PeterSt on January 08, 2015, 08:38:28 am Hi Juan,
What is your problem ? Peter PS: :teasing: Hi Peter, thanks. Actually the idea was not to solve "my" problem (only), but to take this opportunity to expose a situation in the forum that seemed important as it is the poor active participation of members. I was wondering if it was due to the technical complexity and/or to the difficulty of finding specific topics or posts. Of course I could be wrong in my perception. Due to some familiar issues I´m out of home since last Christmas and until the first days of February so it will be better if I be back with some more consistency with this topic later. Anyways, as summarized the doubts I can recall now are: Why a LAN? In my case would be to avoid to connect the hard drive with music via USB to the Music PC and replace it with a laptop connected to the Music PC with an Ethernet cable. The hard drive with music would be connected to the laptop with a USB cable. My doubts are (thinking that I use NOS1a): Have any influence on the SQ the connections mentioned above? What is better a LAN (with a laptop) or a NAS? Which is better Wirless or with an ethernet cable? One of the problems I found is that the Music PC does not "see" the music hard drive with the music, so the only way is to copy some music of this hard drive to a folder on the desktop of the laptop to be viewed on the Music PC. Surely there will be another way to do it better and that's what I also wanted to know. Kind regards, Juan Title: Re: How to install the music on LAN (dynamically stopped / started) Post by: PeterSt on January 09, 2015, 11:39:41 am Answer to your key question Juan :
Make "Shares" of your music disks on the PC containing the music (which is similar to that being a NAS). When this is done properly you can see these disks on the audio PC which itself has nothing connected for music disks. Now you can select the music as always (no difference anywhere) from within XXHighEnd. So now the music is loaded over the LAN. Your music PC is now as lean as possible; contains only some OS device (usally a spinning disk or SSD, but can also be e.g. a USB stick). Peter PS: I see no laptop in this process, unless it is that "PC" containing all the music. Hi Peter, Does it mean that I can connect the music hdd, that only has the music albums, directly to the audio PC using an ethernet cable? I thought that to create a LAN it was necessary to do it in between computers with an Operating System on each one. Could you tell me please with some more detail how to do that "Shares" on the PC containing the music? Juan Title: Re: How to install the music on LAN (dynamically stopped / started) Post by: PeterSt on January 09, 2015, 05:34:16 pm Then on the PC holding the music, rightclick on the volume, and look for "Share". But while this is the easy part, nothing tells that this works right out of the box. The Sharing will work all right, but whether the audio PC can now see the volumes of the music-holding PC ...
So it is here where I must stop. But if it works it works. Title: Re: How to install the music on LAN (dynamically stopped / started) Post by: juanpmar on January 09, 2015, 06:53:32 pm Ok Peter, thanks again, we'll see if it works when I test it.
