Title: Triple Amplification Post by: brunok on March 14, 2014, 03:31:41 am Congratulations on the new design speakers. I'm sure everyones' chomping at the bit to find out more information either from you and/or Bert on his web site. I know the full answers will come in due time.
Two things caught my attention, though. You mentioned three amps but aren't there only two driver types? And secondly, --actually I changed my mind about asking the second question,...I'll wait. I'm just very happy for you guys; hard work, perseverence, and quality once again, I'm sure!! Regards Title: Re: Triple Amplification Post by: PeterSt on March 14, 2014, 08:50:15 am Hi there Bruno,
There's the bass drivers, a mid and a tweeter (coaxial). The sheer reason to use three amplifiers is to allow the mid-high now to be 118dB sensitive (otherwise it is 115dB). It may come across as totally crazy, but I guess that happens when Bert is in the first place and me challenging him to let that out.. Of course I have to be crazy too, so I am. Point here is : This small difference of 3dB against the already very high 115dB implies so much more "speed" that once you heard that you can't go back. Of course this is all about how to let sound the cymbals etc. more right than they already did. But really, we tried all we could think of to make it the best there is. Largely this is about the concept as a whole, and I will write more about that later. But small hint : This guarantees a total silent (no noise at all) output, having in mind that 118dB ... Quadriple even! The bass channel uses a brigded amp giving double the power for extra headroom... ;) Bert Title: Re: Triple Amplification Post by: PeterSt on March 14, 2014, 10:08:35 am Haha. And then to think this was my last sentence in the previous post, but I scratched it. So, technically true of course, but functionally not.
Not that it is not functional ... :) Peter Title: Re: Triple Amplification Post by: PeterSt on March 14, 2014, 10:10:56 am PS:
Before someone asks how an addtional amplifier allows for better sensitivety of the speaker - this question will not be answered because proprietary. But it really is so. |
