XXHighEnd

The error you will receive at bringing up XXHighEnd from Unattended in Windows 8.1 is easily "solved" for now like this :

First off, the error occurs at using the Stop button after bringing up XXHighEnd. Well, not sure because I am somewhat further here on the "versions". Anyway :

Use Ctrl-Shift-Esc to start TaskManager. From there chose "File" and "Run new task" in the top left menu of it and type Explorer. That will start the Desktop and no error will occur now if you could be in advance of the error in the first place. Otherwise just click away the error message and do as just described, *if* you need the Desktop that is.

I did not install any alternative Shell or anything. But also see upcoming posts (maybe tomorrow).

Btw, no further issues anywhere, but maybe read those upcoming posts before you try 8.1 yourself.

I found the culprit of this;

The W7Shell which is slipstreamed with the XXHighEnd downloads does not work for Windows 8.1. Ok. But when you upgrade from native W8 to W8.1 its install folder does not get removed (no reason for that either). However, while I myself uninstalled the W7Shell first before upgrading to W8.1, this install folder still remains. And it is this existance of this folder which triggers XXHighEnd to use that W7Shell ... which for W8.1 can't work.

Do this :

Assumed your OS is on drive C:, there is this folder :
C:\Windows\explorer7\
Rename this explorer7 to explorer7a or something (or delete the \Explorer7\ folder if you like) and all is well.

After doing this the current XXHighEnd 0.9z-9b is just compatible with W8.1 all over (that I can see). No issues anywhere.

Thanks Peter, all works fine now that I have removed the explorer7 folder...

I only did this test yet, but I am impatient to go further, in hope that what I experienced with plain W8 will be a thing of the past...
