Title: NOS1 and DAC settings in XXHE 0.9z-9b WIN8 Post by: CoenP on August 27, 2013, 11:41:10 pm This post is not about a formal sq setting, it is about an selection option in the settingsarea of XX to make it work at all.
I refer to the DAC settings section where the " DAC is zz Bits yyy.y KHz" can be set. Now there are two working values for the NOS1. Strangely this option for the NOS1 has quite a profound influence on the sound. That is that there is a quite noticable difference between "DAC is 24 bits 768.0 KHz" and "DAC is 32 bits 768.0 KHz". Since nobody states this in his/her sig, i assume that this is an afterthought for many of us. My finding is that setting it on the 24 bits option sounds more balanced, gentile and natural. The caveat with WIN8 is that it responds to allmost everything you do either to XX, the OS or the BIOS. So this conclusion is only valid in the light of my current settings. I am however very interested in your findings wrt this setting. Please share! What about DAC Needs 24 bits not working at all in 705.6 and 768 ? Or am I crazy now ? *If* it works it should be "caused" by Windows 8 (I don't think I ever tried) and if it works indeed it should be for the better ... When Is Phasure NOS1 is not activated it for sure works, but that gives 352.8/384 max. Coen is talking about selection of DAC(s) capability in drop-down list, not selection on radio-buttons (24 or 32 bits) According to Coen, there is difference in SQ and is better to choose NOS1 as "24/768" rather than "32/768" capable DAC. Well, if your selection of 32/768 matters to SQ I will eat a tie or something. This does totally nothing except from self protection against playing files which the DAC can't bear (not that 32 bit files are really supported, but that is/was planned at some stage).
