Title: The end of XXHighEnd ?
Post by: PeterSt on November 16, 2007, 03:50:35 am

Noooooo ...
But let's say it's the end of an era.  :blob8:

Those who follow the development of XXHighEnd from the beginning, know that once per so many months I (myself at least) dare say that music playback got "twice as good" again. Well, twice as good is not defined of course, but it expresses some wild progress achieved.
This is such a moment again ... :yahoo:

Maybe there is not much reason to tell about this while the version expressing it all is not uploaded yet, but let's say you've got a day or two to get yourself acquainted with the old days ...

Some of you may recall me telling about the "crazy dynamics" early version of Engine#3 (which never got it to the public), which was so "unheard" that it really had something because of just that fact. But, it was not good also (this was about instruments falling apart, and hearing the individual body parts of instruments instead). Well ...
This time a similar thing was achieved, but now I think it's good. Oh yes ...

This time there is one main characteristic of another universe : crazy transient response.

Wow, I dare ...
Yep, kind of confident. :)

A litte care though ...
Right now, I'm sure I am the only one who knows what the amps I have are capable of in terms of speed (look at the picture below at the bottom left and the "BD" box to get some idea). Yes, this amp was made for speed, but what it really can take ... wow. Okay, IOW, it may be so that what XXHighEnd now can unveil, may not come from your amps. But we'll see about that.
Also note that this unrivaled transient response most probably only can be perceived by means of a nos (non oversampling) DAC.

On another note, be warned; be warned about giving yourself a day to get used to the sound. To learn what's in there ... to learn about the good stuff.
I say this, because all is very much different. At first you may find all has gotten more tiny. Actually, I think it is, but because of so much added air;
At this time, it could be so that net -and after longer listening- the outcome is that it's no good at all. But so far, I do not expect that.
Also, I just listened to one setting, while of course there still is the Q1 to slide with, the Invert box to change and some more, and ... and a few new settings with which I did not even dare start playing around with. I just like the first attempt of a random set combination so much that I'm afraid to destory things. Hahaha.

A funny thing is, that some of those settings can't even be checked for their proper working. Think of Processor Core Appointment or Priority which can be checked indeed (by means of Windows properties), but these new settings ... not. So I must trust my own decency in programming here. Well ...

I must say, I was inspired once again by ideas of you out there (per request of two different people over time), which now causes the big difference. Start guessing what it is ...

In the upcoming weekend I will finish things off, and a 0.9s-0 version will be uploaded.
For now, start dreaming about supersupersuper fast synth voices, timbre at a micro level you did not know it existed, new sounds in all your music all over the place, the visualization of manipulating hi-hats as was done in reality, and ... well ... more highs.
The latter I was seeking for as you might know, and I am about to unmount my highs-upleveling tweaks now. So get ready for that too ... a kind of extreme more highs expression.

                                                                :teasing:

This sounds most intriguing Peter 8)

And, because the weekend starts here about 9 to 10 hours before you guys in Europe, I'll be able to open and play with the present earlier

Cheers all,

Peter this is very cruel ! I haven't been as anxious to receive my new toys since the days I still believed in St. Nicolas. I will look for your upload every five minutes for the coming 48 hours....
On the other hand, if your words come out true (once again) I will call you St Peter for ever more.

Hi Peter,

It is just occurred to me when thinking about your new upcoming version and its dynamics.
The thing that I liked so much about r version, was that the sound is engaging, alive, don't let you get bored.
in other words, yes that's right, it was very much dynamic.

So I am waiting for a surprise too.

Andrey

Hahaha Russ. Bad luck you have. And you'd be really in bad luck when I finish it after 6pm tonight ... :o
But no, I'm working on it. 4-5 hours maybe ...

I'll look on the bright side then ... I can enjoy it tomorrow during the day while the rest of the world needs to sleep, although I'm sure there will be a few here having a late night tonight

The temperature forecast for tomorrow here is a top of 37 degrees centigrade so it's a good excuse to stay inside and enjoy your new creation.

Cheers all,

Russ

It took some longer than expected (isn't that always ?). Should be 30 minutes now ... (making Release Notes).
That would be 5:55pm here.

Now I have the new player but I can't play with it! At this moment the PC is making a backup (through FW800) needed to have some speed while making a 2TB backup (only works under XP). Still, it will take another 6 hours to finish and then I will be gone to bed...

Vista can't run at the same time and that is needed to tryout the new player!  :(

Oh well, there is tomorrow...  ;)

Yes, but after this full backup I only need to update it from time to time and then a few Gb's takes only a few minutes... :)
