Hi Peter,

With 0.9z-8-3a after a little while of opening XX, the monitor shuts down & doesn't restart with Alt+X. There is no way to operate XX.

Huh ?

So you start XXHighEnd, wait a bit (how long exactly ?) and then the monitor goes off and won't go on by for example moving the mouse ? Is that what you are saying ?

Hi Peter,

In about 6 mins the monitor shuts down. Moving the mouse or pressing any key on the keyboard doesnt restart it.

I will also check if there is a problem with the monitor itself. Though I have my doubts if there is a problem. If I don't start XX, the monitor remains on. Hence starting XX has this effect on it.

Is this in Normal OS Mode ?
And if not, does it happen there the same ?

I have something "similar" but then related to the sleep mode of the PC (unattended).

The only way to get the PC back to life is to turn off the power and then start the PC again.

Alt-X is not a problem here when XX is playing.

Bert, you quoted my text with the question about MinOS and such, but I see no answer to that in your case. But assumed this is in MinOS only :

It all (including Carsten's dimmed display) feels like settings in Normal OS must be set first properly in order to let all work in good fahsion in MinOS Mode. But point is : I don't see how that can influence. But I guess things get inconsistent ?

In my case I never saw a problem. However, I always worked like this :

- Monitor is set to go off after 45 minutes (no screensaver) *);
- PC never hybernates or sleeps or anything *);
- Set Switch Off Monitor in XXHighEnd settings;
- I switch off the monitor additionally (power button) when playback starts.

*) : This is to be set in Normal OS Mode.

And for Arvind :
Assumed you use XTweaks-Ultimate, I really really have no clue how ever in the world anything in XXHighEnd can cause the monitor to go off (after 6 minutes) just because XXHighEnd is started and nothing else. But mind the Ultimate setting, because without that more things happen (still no clue, but then not baffled, which I am now).

Maybe I can post here everything I have tried up to now, although without success, but it seems to be related (sort of?) to this topic.

When booting into MinOS Ultimate, my Macbook dims the brightness of the display down completely, and sometimes I am able to bring it back to 10% or so with the buttons on the keyboard.
The energy options are blocked, no access, regardless of the energy options I preset in NormalOS mode (high performance usually).

It seems like the system tries to save energy that is needed fo the processors, in order not to exceed the capacity of the power supply unit.

So I tried to underclock the system, although the Macbook having no Bios, I found a nice freeware program called Throttlestop that allows for monitoring the cores as well as changing clock modulation.
But even with very low core frequencies, no changes in the brightness behaviour, to the contrary, it even didnt let me push it up to the 10%. But starting Win7 in safe mode always allows me to change back to Normal OS via XXHE.
It seems that either the Intel i7 chipset or my system (Bootcamp divrers for running WIn7 on a Mac) have a build-in throttle to limit energy consumption, but it is not directly related to processor clocking.

Maybe that helps, if somebody has a clue how to proceed, help is appreciated.

In the meantime I can play with 8.3a in Ultimate OS mode, but with a very shallow display XXHE is no fun.

I remember this situation while repairing friend's laptop. At power options for laptop there was separate screen/window for monitor brightness and dim
while on battery pwr supply. Remember I could not move this "screen brightness" slider at all, windows content was hardly visible after one minute,
all was dark almost like monitor is turned off. Re-check monitor pwr settings, put them on max, if there is dim option turn it off. All before going to min OS.

I figured those out myself before (clicking the energy settings did not respond in MinOS, so what to do next....) and changed those settings under normal OS conditions.

All was fine here already before responding, I just wanted to share the experience of having a "dead" PC...

So, Bert, is it indeed so that setting things correctly in Normal OS makes it OK for MinOS ?

Yes, the PC does not go into sleep mode anymore and all is very responsive in minOS mode. So far things keep running nicely, even after some time (+hours) not doing anything with the PC.

After all the heartburns it turned out that the cable from the monitor to the PC was not supporting the high resolution. Replaced the same & all ok.

Problem solved.

Tried almost everything (reinstalling all drivers for bootcamp, graphics etc), did not change anything. Underclocking / overclocking also no changes.
My problem stem from a limited power supply to the Laptop (I finally should go for a real PC...). Contrary to some advice, I have then simply tried the energy saving mode and twiggled a little bit within to minimize power consumption and -yep!- it works now perfectly with the ultimate tweaks.

Notice that a "limited power supply" often is a deteriorated one (worn).
