Title: XXTweaks do not start automatically... Post by: BertD on January 30, 2013, 02:29:21 pm ...is that the way it should work?
Only when I click [Apply] in the settings menu makes things "heat up". I can only check if this is working like this in attended mode, unattended makes my "tools" dissapear. Bert Title: Re: XXTweaks do not start automatically... Post by: PeterSt on January 30, 2013, 04:24:10 pm Bert, that would not be correct I think. Do you mean after a reboot from MinOS to MinOS ?
It should be unrelated to playback. But if you want to have your tool operative, just have its name (without the .exe) in the Keep Processes field (and don't forget the () braces). Peter PS: If you change settings in there, then yes, you must click Apply to apply them. Even when that was in a previous boot session that you changed those settings (NormalOS or MinOS). But once "applied" they should sustain, unless you go from MinOS to NormalOS (and back into MinOS re-applies them). Title: Re: XXTweaks do not start automatically... Post by: BertD on January 30, 2013, 07:43:35 pm Bert, that would not be correct I think. Do you mean after a reboot from MinOS to MinOS ? I always reboot from MinOS to MinOS as this is the state my OS is always in except when I update XX or want to install something else. ;) But even after a cold boot without touching the settings at all those XXtweaks do not kick in... Things have changed more now... I have tried several things (several reboots included) but now I can't get XXTweaks activated anymore! No matter what I do.... weird. Bert For me is the tweak active when the temperature of all cores rise steeply until the watercooling system kicks in where it remains at 60 degrees average. Title: Re: XXTweaks do not start automatically... Post by: PeterSt on January 30, 2013, 08:43:53 pm Bert, maybe you can't say/judge that. If you followed my advice (in a sticky somewhere) to NOT DEactivate "Cooling" then you won't notice a thing. Well, I could, but you won't.
So ... what about setting "Cool when Idle" to 0 (not cool) and judge again ? And uhm, I am talking about W8 here (for that advice) but you could have applied it to W7 just the same. Anyway, what OS are you talking about ? Peter Title: Re: XXTweaks do not start automatically... Post by: BertD on January 30, 2013, 08:53:41 pm So ... what about setting "Cool when Idle" to 0 (not cool) and judge again ? Then it kicks in immediately (all four cores +20 degrees within 2 seconds) and that stays active even when XX is shut off and removed from memory. The only way to have things run in "idle" mode again is to set cool to "1". Set to "1" does not show anything similar when playing starts so to me it does not do what it is supposed to do? Quote Anyway, what OS are you talking about ? Window 8 (trying to get it to sound better than W7) Bert Title: Re: XXTweaks do not start automatically... Post by: PeterSt on January 30, 2013, 09:34:35 pm Quote Set to "1" does not show anything similar when playing starts so to me it does not do what it is supposed to do? Ehm, not sure if I understand you right, but cool=cool. And when cooled it sort of looks obvious to me that things won't heat up. Or ? Again, playing has totally nothing to do with it. If I don't get what you mean, let me know. Peter Title: Re: XXTweaks do not start automatically... Post by: BertD on January 30, 2013, 09:41:15 pm If I don't get what you mean, let me know. Cool=cool which is clear. I though that one XXtweak is to heat up the processor (for whatever reason) with the option to turn back to normal state (cool when idle) when playing has stopped or not... I guess the word Idle is then mixing up my mind... Bert Title: Re: XXTweaks do not start automatically... Post by: PeterSt on January 30, 2013, 09:54:06 pm Yes, after my last post I thought about that phrase ...
What's happening is that the whole lot is always "idle". So, playing or not. I mean, we know about the CPU usage of XXHighEnd, right ? It is virtually zero. And that means idle. Now, *that* part can't be judged right with Windows 8, because when you set Cool when Idle = 0 (so, not cool), the CPU usage is suddenly not zero at all. And here too (especially for your confusion) ... when you play or not. But since I also seem to perceive a somewhat slower reaction it seems real and not only Taskmanager etc. showing it. Something is just wrong in W8 in this area, and that's why the advice to not use it (meaning : normally cool seems better to me). Btw, I never tried to listen to the difference - I just don't like it for what I see ... Peter Title: Re: XXTweaks do not start automatically... Post by: PeterSt on January 30, 2013, 09:56:16 pm Last thing : Is is okay with you when we conclude that nothing is the matter with XTweaks engaging ?
I think so. But it may be good to state it explicitly because others might be quite confused by this all. Title: Re: XXTweaks do not start automatically... Post by: BertD on January 30, 2013, 10:32:50 pm Is is okay with you when we conclude that nothing is the matter with XTweaks engaging ? No issues whatsoever but if so then I can turn it off completely (rename file to NoXXTweaks.tst I believe). Bert Title: Re: XXTweaks do not start automatically... Post by: PeterSt on January 30, 2013, 10:40:18 pm Quote No issues whatsoever but if so then I can turn it off completely Huh ? of course not. If you like the sound better without, go ahead of course. Btw, notice that you should use "Reset", because turning it of by means of that .tst file will only work after a reboot (when it was on). So, Reset and Apply switches between turning it Off and On in real time. :bye: PS: But after a reboot (into MinOS of course) you must not forget to use Reset again because it auto-applies at the (re)boot. Title: Re: XXTweaks do not start automatically... Post by: BertD on January 30, 2013, 11:04:02 pm So, Reset and Apply switches between turning it Off and On in real time. I can also switch it ON and OFF in the settings menu without rebooting or renaming the related file? Just click on [Reset] to turn it OFF and [Apply] to turn it ON? :dntknw: Title: Re: XXTweaks do not start automatically... Post by: PeterSt on January 30, 2013, 11:25:54 pm Correct.
