Title: Windows 8 Sound Quality Can I Disagree?
Post by: Scroobius on January 27, 2013, 09:10:54 pm
Well actually no disagreement about SQ - I read Peter's description of the SQ in Windows 8 and now that I have Win 8 all the things Peter describes are there and sounds really great.

BUT I have to disagree about the settings (again sorry Peter!) I started with Peter's recommended settings of 430/20/30 - and it did not sound right but I had other problems to sort out. It is only now I have been able to sit down and have a proper listen. With the settings back to where I had them in W7 (i.e. SFS=2 Q1 = 14 Q1f = 1). Now it sounds fantastic smooth detailed and dynamic. The big latency settings smudge the detail - they just do not sound right to these ears.

But wow is it sounding good now. The separation between individual strands in the mix is much better than before. The sound stretches outside the speakers the tiniest strands of sound are easily heard now.

The pain of my "bad PC weekend" is already disappearing in the rear view mirror.
