EDIT: And with the cd of Candy Dulfer the message * Engine 3 does not work anymore*  came up

Hi Gerard,

True ... no Library functions support the FLAC extensions yet. I forgot to tell that.

About the Length Error message ... I hope you can PM me about an example ...

Candy Dulfer : Here too, if you'd have an individual track giving you a message like this ..., please PM it to me (try to find a rather short one).

In all cases, I hope you can provide me the data on how you ripped the track, and what it is, to your expectations, hat it does not work.
Thanks.

I'm doing other things right now....ya know (this reorganizing and adding pictures to my files takes a long time...(that program I listed and this place http://www.discogs.com/ have been a help).  Darn you and your cool library function I'm getting hooked on... i like the pictures now.

But this is enough to scare me off from the new player 0.9O for a bit.
From PeterSt download area:
"Actually this is a stupid thing to do, and possibly unknown errors might come from it. Mind you, from normal WAV files. If so indeed, the support for WMP-rips will be removed immediately."

I'm not taking the time to critically listen right now ... so this space reserved.  But I hope someone has the time to compare and see if we've lost anything in terms of WAV playback... I truely don't understand why anyone rips to flac with cheap (and cheaper/bigger on the way) HDD space.   I guess this possible problem is related to WMA files when I reread... but again, I've never used them and so you shouldn't either ... heheh sorry.  Always go back and compare to the greatness of what you have already done.

edit
PeterSt once again holds his customers worrying hand... you can delete this post.

The "errors" I talked about in that release note are not about sound quality. They are about errors in the formal format of files, now possibly not being captured anymore, and e.g. all can stay silent or digital noise instead of a neat message that prevents playback,
Note that those errors already can emerge from a bad rip.

So far we don't have the experience and we will see how it works out.

All is sweetness in life here  :thankyou:

I've being playing quite a number of familiar tracks and comparing FLAC to WAV and cannot distinguish between them. Everything I've tried so far has played back without a glitch. I've used dBPoweramp to create the FLAC's at compression level 8 , followed by a verify step.

Well done Peter !

Cheers all  :)

Hello Peter,

Have you received my email?

I just ended two downloads from a cd who was ripped with EAC.... That's what they wrote.... And with that cd the

(Length in error flac file came up.)

EDIT: Also something really strange XX shows... The numbers who are giving this message do not play but you can load them in the playlist.... The length of al the tracks individueel and from both cd's they are 3:45.84

But when i play them with mediamonkey they are NOT the track length that XX shows.....

EDIT: Whaaaaa I dont understand it anymore..... The moment i am writing this XX Automaticly starts to play the numbers who gave the error message in the first time. XX now give first the error Message and when i click the error away then XX starts to play.

Hi Gerard,

Yes I received your email. Thank you (you can remove your links).

What it was ripped with is less important I think. More important would be what they FLACed it with. If you know that, you can try to FLAC a CD yourself with that same tool, and when that (is or) is not working it is important to know.

Be careful that you are not dealing with containers like OGG or even MKV. Probably many programs will be able to deal with those just by renaming them to FLAC, but XXHighEnd currently does not dig that (it will, but not now).

Hello peter,

Here you can see what happens when i load a cd wich gave the message *Length error in track file*

Then all the track numbers gave the same length.

But actually there is really not one number who is really that long according to other players.

The strange thing is though that after the error XX starts to play the number. But with the next track everthing starts over again...

Btw: Most of my Flac have the same problem. But also a few who has not.

The problem with * Engine3 stopt working* I cannot see something strange. When i convert them into Wav XX does also after a few songs  gave the message that Engine3 stopt working. But not at the first song!
And so i see now The message Engine 3 does not start within the expected time is back again  ;). But only with the converted cd...  :)

Grtz
PS: It looks a bit strange but i tried to rename them in the hope that would make a difference...

Peter,

After a second time load in you see that the track time has changed. I did this 5 times in a row and it stay's this way....

EDIT: And one from KLF...

Gerard, thanks for the information. The thing on the timing (track length) would be normal behaviour when things go wrong as they do here.

Then, the Sinead O'Connor seems to be a FLAC which is encapsulated in an MP3 ... Anyway it contains ID3 tagging.

The Dulfer I don't know yet. I will look at that later this week.

It might not be the best idea to let these downloads loose on XX. You won't know what you have, and my time for these analysis is kind of "priceless" at this moment. I mean, since all these weird formats aren't supported anyway ... :sorry:

Hoi Peter,

I understand when things go wrong that a message will came up. But when the message is pusht away then XX play's them without any problem. And to me it sounds ok.... But there i could be wrong...
I thought that Flac always be able to contain ID3 tagging..

But i will be patient and wait for what is comming......

Thanxxxxx

Gerard,

This is about extracting the length of the track from the data. So, e.g. the Sinead can just be converted, but the length data is in another place I don't (yet) anticipate upon. Thus, all would be okay when you'd just did not need the tracklength in advance. So it errors out on that only ...

As I said (similar) in the release note : genuin FLAC only for now. :)
