Title: Which DACs were replaced by the NOS1 ? Post by: PeterSt on October 09, 2012, 10:12:34 am Hi all NOS1 owners,
I should have kept track of it right from the start, but since the Phasure NOS1 seems to be able to replace each and every DAC by now it seems nice to keep track of which those are. Could also be convenient for those lurking for a NOS1 but feel to be in doubt. The list below is from what I know by heart or could find in the forum (not spending too much time on it), knowing that those posting in the forum are in the far minority. But, might "the other group" read this and you don't want to post here, please feel free to send me an email with the DAC you replaced with the NOS1. Also, when you see e.g. "Audio Note (various types)" please hand me the particular type. I know they are there, but just don't know exactly which ones. I will keep the list below up to date based on your responses. They are spelt (EDIT: And I need to improve my own spelling! I mean 'spelled' of course) 'Pacific Microsonics'... Maybe correct this so that this thread is included in any online search for them. Post by: juanpmar on October 09, 2012, 10:47:32 am Hi Peter, I´m in the first place in the list with the EMM Labs CDSD SE/DCC2 SE and want to confirm that, although the EMM Labs is considered among the best ones in the world, I don´t regret at all to have replaced it with the NOS1. It is not a matter of price, the EMM Labs costed when I bought it 24.000€, it is a matter of sound quality. The NOS1 is far better than anything I´ve tried so far and I´ve tried some other first class cd players along the time.
Happy to be here and happy and proud to be a NOS1 owner. Thanks, Juan Title: Re: Which DACs were replaced by the NOS1 ? Post by: juanpmar on October 09, 2012, 11:07:45 am Let me add something to the previous post, when you change from one dac to the NOS1 you are not only changing dacs, you are also changing the whole way to reproduce music. You are changing from reproducing directly cds to reproducing music (with XXHighEnd) stored in hard drives. That´s the final idea and has to be have in consideration. On this regards reproducing music with a computer AND with the NOS1 is the best way to reproduce music I´ve found so far, including turntables.
Juan PS. Of course some dacs in the list are also combined with computers, maybe others opinion can complement mine. Title: Re: Which DACs were replaced by the NOS1 ? Post by: Stanray on October 09, 2012, 12:56:47 pm The NOS 1 replaced the combo: CEC TL51 CD transport slaved at the AudioMagic DAC. Beautiful plain redbook combo, but no match for the NOS 1.

The distinction between the original PWD and the PWD MK II is far from insignificant as recent reviews in The Absolute Sound and the CA website undoutedly explain in detail.

Title: Re: Which DACs were replaced by the NOS1 ? Post by: CoenP on October 10, 2012, 09:42:35 am I had a Cantatis Ouverture 24/196 wich isn't a 24/196 dac under windows 7 and cought fire after the warranty passed. SQ was, kudos to XXHe, bearable, but never quite to my liking (like my modified to death M-Audio Ap24/96 FW dac).
Needless to say that the NoS1 is a kazillion times better, but this would be comparing grapes to pineapples. Regards, Coen Title: Re: Which DACs were replaced by the NOS1 ? Post by: praphan on October 10, 2012, 10:58:05 am Hi Peter,
Apart from Berkeley Alpha DAC, I also A/B tested with Benchmark DAC 1 Pre. NOS 1 won in all aspects from the perspective of SQ. Praphan Title: Re: Which DACs were replaced by the NOS1 ? Post by: AlainGr on August 10, 2013, 09:51:53 pm It is about time I add the Bryston BDA-1 on this list !

I am not sure if you already have my (sold) Weiss Medea on your list. Cheers, Eric Title: Re: Which DACs were replaced by the NOS1 ? Post by: 2glory on December 09, 2013, 03:34:25 pm Lampizator L5 with DSD. Full Phasure Monty made me hear the Lamp sound as colored, distorted and full of noise. On supreme RB files like FIM/MA recording the Phasure sounds as good as native 128 DSD. Selling Lamp!!

Have fun there ! Peter |
