Title: SQ and BIOS? Post by: Stanray on October 05, 2012, 08:52:54 am Since I updated the BIOS of my Asus Mobo, and reinstalled W7, I don’t seem to get the same SQ as before :(. But I’m not sure the BIOS update can be the cause, or that it's something else . .
However Asus released a next version of the BIOS shortly after, and advises to use the new version. So it seems logical to update the BIOS again. My question, as a newbe in the world of Windows: is it necessary to also reinstall W7 (and thus reinstall and reactivate XXHE)? Thanks! Title: Re: SQ and BIOS? Post by: CoenP on October 05, 2012, 10:09:38 am I've done numerous bios updates without having to reinstall Windows.
I don't know if the bios update process transports old bios settings to the new version. Sometimes you have to walk through the settings to make shure that all is how you want it (or as it was). Particularly the ahci vs ide mode drive setting can prevent windows from booting if not set like on the install of windows. The update cam make a difference to sq, but in my experience the proper bios settings are more important. Afaik XX activation has no relation with the bios (but to drive and os). Unless there's some major enhancement in there like UEFI support which wasn't there before. Well, I am not sure, but I think you better reformat your OS disk at least in such a case. Maybe others know better ? Peter Title: Re: SQ and BIOS? Post by: Stanray on October 05, 2012, 06:42:18 pm Well, I am not sure, but I think you better reformat your OS disk at least in such a case. But I was referring to that UEFI example. So, that would be a typicle "need" to reformat, and thus also reinstall the OS. Otherwise not.
