Title: Help to install a PS2 mouse and keyboard Post by: juanpmar on September 21, 2012, 01:05:15 am Could someone tell me how to install a PS2 mouse and keyboard in my mb that only has one PS2 connection for both?. I have a PS2 Y splitter cable where I connect the mouse and the kb but only the kb works. If I install only the mouse it works also, the problem is that both at the same time don´t work.

Here's an idea though? Do they have a ps2 keyboard that also has a touch pad mouse? I use ps2 mouse and keyboard myself to avoid usb... but mb has two connections.
Title: Re: Help to install a PS2 mouse and keyboard Post by: PeterSt on September 21, 2012, 09:15:46 am Hahaha, reading through this I was going to suggest the very same as Dave just did. That for sure would work. But does such a keyboard exist ?
Title: Re: Help to install a PS2 mouse and keyboard Post by: juanpmar on September 21, 2012, 01:11:59 pm Thanks, I was looking for that keyboard with a mouse pad and all the ones I´ve found have two PS2 cables. What I´d need is a kb/mouse pad with only one PS2 cable.
Title: Re: Help to install a PS2 mouse and keyboard Post by: PeterSt on September 21, 2012, 01:25:06 pm Oops, if it works like *that* then it was only a nice idea without sense/knowledge ... (only referring to myself of course !)
Title: Re: Help to install a PS2 mouse and keyboard Post by: praphan on September 21, 2012, 02:29:03 pm Hello Juan,
I trust this post finds you well. If you have a free PCI slot, you may like to try this. http://www.amazon.co.uk/PCI-USB-PS2-CONTROLLER-CARD/dp/B003TX6932 Hope this should serve your purpose. Cheers! Praphan Title: Re: Help to install a PS2 mouse and keyboard Post by: juanpmar on September 21, 2012, 03:55:07 pm Hi Praphan, that´s a good idea, I´ll try it.
Thanks so much! Juan Title: Re: Help to install a PS2 mouse and keyboard Post by: CoenP on September 22, 2012, 12:25:51 am Unfortunately PC motherboards with one PS/2 port only support either the mouse or the keyboard, not both. The other one is supposed to be USB.
There have been incidental portable computers (like "work-out-your-laptops") in dynosaur times that had a special PS/2 configuration supporting both mouse band keyboard on one port with a splitter. That was a long time ago, no such bliss these days. I have a PS/2 portless motherboard and was looking for a non-usb mouse/keyboard solution and even went so far to buy a COM port mouse. It worked on the internal COM connector but had a sonic signature that I didn't like. Most likely the PCI solution is based on a PCI-USB hub, might as well go for usb stratight away. OTOH I didn't try... No solution for this problem yet (not using USB for kb and mouse). regards, Coen Title: Re: Help to install a PS2 mouse and keyboard Post by: juanpmar on September 22, 2012, 01:11:12 am Thanks Coen for your information, probably you are right and there is no solution. What I´m doing now with good results is disconnect the USB mouse and keyboard from the usb hub and turn off the monitor once the music start playing.
Best regards, Juan Title: Re: Help to install a PS2 mouse and keyboard Post by: PeterSt on September 22, 2012, 08:15:05 am I hardly dare to say it : a Bluetooth keyboard ? (I would not connect the mouse like that)
Title: Re: Help to install a PS2 mouse and keyboard Post by: listening on September 22, 2012, 09:27:06 am Hi Juan,
if you can live with a little handycap use one of that old mechanical port switches to switch the mouse or the keyboard to the PS/2 port ... [But, as I remember, it's working only with the right combination of hardware and driver software.] Georg Title: Re: Help to install a PS2 mouse and keyboard Post by: juanpmar on September 22, 2012, 11:47:21 am Thanks George, I think is easier to connect/disconnect the USB and turn on/off the monitor, that´s not a big deal anyway.
Peter, about the bluetooth keyboard/mouse casually I received yesterday some information from a dealer. Take a look at this: http://www.fentek-ind.com/kbsmtpub.htm#kbsmtpbtb (http://www.fentek-ind.com/kbsmtpub.htm#kbsmtpbtb) To tell you the truth I don´t think that I´d buy it, also because the shipment cost from USA increments substantially the price. Maybe that information can be of interest for others. At the end I can live the way I´m doing so far with the usb keyboard/mouse/monitor and wait to see how the remote evolves and if others experience is satisfactory. As I said in other post I can´t tell a noticeable difference in SQ disconnecting the kb/m/m, and I rather to investigate further in the Playback Drive which is in my opinion much more decisive with respect to SQ. Best regards and thanks to all of you for your opinions, Juan Title: Re: Help to install a PS2 mouse and keyboard Post by: PeterSt on September 22, 2012, 11:58:53 am Ok. But why not buy a normal Bluetooth keyboard around the corner ? I mean, your mouse can still be PS/2 connected ?
Title: Re: Help to install a PS2 mouse and keyboard Post by: juanpmar on September 22, 2012, 01:33:44 pm Ok. But why not buy a normal Bluetooth keyboard around the corner ? I mean, your mouse can still be PS/2 connected ? Yes, but I need the Bluetooth dongle in the PC. Can I use your dongles?Juan Title: Re: Help to install a PS2 mouse and keyboard Post by: PeterSt on September 22, 2012, 02:18:56 pm Of course. They can do "all".
Well, if you got them working by now in the first place !? Title: Re: Help to install a PS2 mouse and keyboard Post by: juanpmar on September 22, 2012, 07:54:54 pm What about this little device?, could be a good remote keyboard...

My opinion ? cool, but maybe too small ? So, to me it looks unnecessary small. There is no reason for that ... 2c Peter PS: But it looks to be a good companion for a tablet (when that tablet is used as a remote) ? Title: Re: Help to install a PS2 mouse and keyboard Post by: juanpmar on September 23, 2012, 01:57:40 pm My opinion ? cool, but maybe too small ? So, to me it looks unnecessary small. There is no reason for that ... It remembers me the typical remotes we all use with our music systems, tv, etc. Even if you still need to use the monitor or tablet this remote is easy to have near you to raise or lower the volume etc. I wonder why we´d need a bigger one bothering around, as a plus it is cheap at 25€ (if it works). Well, just a personal taste. Juan Title: Re: Help to install a PS2 mouse and keyboard Post by: PeterSt on September 23, 2012, 02:06:57 pm But that counts for when using it as a sort of remote only. But do you ? So, IMO you ("we") are not using it as a remote. Just as a keyboard avoiding USB ...
Or ? Title: Re: Help to install a PS2 mouse and keyboard Post by: juanpmar on September 23, 2012, 06:01:17 pm But that counts for when using it as a sort of remote only. But do you ? So, IMO you ("we") are not using it as a remote. Just as a keyboard avoiding USB ... Or ? I´m my case why not?. I don´t have still a tablet and the option of this keyboard could complement what I use now: the monitor and a PS2 mouse. I avoid at the same time the use of the USB. I´d only have to turn off the monitor and could have this bluetooth keyboard in my listening seat. A cheap solution while I buy a tablet, and, as you said, once I get the tablet I could use it also with this keyboard. Juan Title: Re: Help to install a PS2 mouse and keyboard Post by: SeVeReD on September 23, 2012, 06:48:52 pm I don't want to derail this thread, but is bluetooth ok to use? I know Peter's developed something and I'm guessing it's ok to use SQ wise, so it would work for mouse/keyboard SQ wise too?
