Title: Wanted : 20 Beta Testers Post by: PeterSt on July 25, 2012, 08:22:12 pm Haha.
Okay, this never happened before; the whole thing got so complicated that I can't let 0.9z-7 go out to thousands to next find as many forum messages about problems. Well, maybe and hopefully not. So what I am looking for is 20 experienced XXHighEnd users who a. are willing to run into problems; b. are able to lay out in decent fashion to me what the problem is and this goes by email. Edit : Although it still will be about those two links in particular, by know I wouldn't know why we can't take along some first responses from you "beta testers" about the new functionalities, sound wise. So, most of the "manual" pages have been uploaded now, but in due time the last will. Demo version, Install notes and getting an Activation Key (http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=2059.0) How to Activate 0.9z-7 and up (http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=2131.0) but in addition you may watch what happens at your side with this : Your First Startup of XXHighEnd (http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=2132.0) although it won't be really your "first startup". What's mentioned in the first two links (about paying and such) will apply to you just the same. So please read in there what this is about, and act as you please (read and you will understand). It is all part of the "testing" and how the procedure will flow. Again, it is NOT about the new functionalitity and you just as well can take it that it is not there. That is, the pages written for it are not available to you yet, although the ToolTips may tell you enough to carefully try a few things. To this regard I beg you to not ask questions about any new functionality you want to try because I really can't spend time on that (now); all will be in the Manual Section of the forum by the time we officially release 0.9z-7. It is not allowed to copy -whatever it is you receive- to others. Please. It is also not allowed or better, useful, to post anything on the forum what should be communicated through email; I mean the bugs or other negatives. It is allowed though to shout out a few things when you like them much. Let's call that teasers. Do not hesitate to anounce yourself after you've seen 20 people "subscribing", because it will be me who decides who can apply. So, nobody is forced to to this, but I really like to pick those of whom I think they can be the most helpful. And please don't be disappointed when you are not a chosen one. As a reference to this maybe strange post I want to point out that normally I take 2-3 months to come up with a new version, while this time it is 2-3 months ago by now that I thought that "next week" 0.9z-7 would be ready. And that went on for all those weeks again and again. So that bad it is and I really don't like to run into something pressing like this again. Anyway, while today I think 0.9z-7 is ready, I'm really having the shivers at thinking what can all go wrong and to how many people it may apply. In the mean time I have been dying of not being able to share what I have here for such a long time already. No, this can't happen again. At the time of this writing I still have to apply the last preparations and anticipate that I won't be able to come up with a response today, and maybe not even tomorrow (tomorrow I will be out anyway, so notice that *if* I manage before I'm out to hand over something, I won't be there to respond. Oh, did I tell you ? it is my aim do have all running by the end of next weekend for the public. :swoon: Thanks a lot everybody ! Peter PS: Apply in this topic please ! Title: Re: Wanted : 20 Beta Testers Post by: Leo on July 26, 2012, 08:02:16 am Hi Peter, in the manual part 00b (first link) the second picture does not mention Continue at the mouse pointer(as it says in the text) but Activate, just like the first picture on that page. So that is either a mistake on your side or I have just disqualified myself as a tester :)
fingers crossed here! Leo Title: Re: Wanted : 20 Beta Testers Post by: PeterSt on July 26, 2012, 08:26:58 am I have always been much in doubt about your qualities. But this did it. You are in.

Title: Re: Wanted : 20 Beta Testers Post by: PeterSt on July 26, 2012, 05:24:41 pm Jud, I'm not sure whether that's a good or a bad thing. I do know that when I'm appointed to be testing a few things, nothing will work for sure. Hmm ...
In the mean time, I put this in the first post of this topic : Although it still will be about those two links in particular, by know I wouldn't know why we can't take along some first responses from you "beta testers" about the new functionalities, sound wise. So, most of the "manual" pages have been uploaded now, but in due time the last will. Otherwise I don't know what to do anymore at this moment, but since I will be leaving in a few minutes and don't want to let you alone with all my quircks in there, I'll save "the thing" until first my morning. That should be in 14 hours from now. If we, in the mean time, can get some more guys to pester me, please go ahead and anounce yourself. All good luck in advance ! (I said this to myself) Peter Title: Re: Wanted : 20 Beta Testers Post by: Jud on July 26, 2012, 06:34:45 pm Jud, I'm not sure whether that's a good or a bad thing. I do know that when I'm appointed to be testing a few things, nothing will work for sure. Hmm ... Peter Oh, it's bad, very bad. ;-) But hey, that's what's needed, isn't it? That "nothing will work" for a few, so that everything will work for everyone? Jud Title: Re: Wanted : 20 Beta Testers Post by: Diede on July 26, 2012, 11:41:20 pm Hi Peter,

Looking forward to read your feedback! Title: Re: Wanted : 20 Beta Testers Post by: PeterSt on July 27, 2012, 10:05:05 am I just sent an email to a first half of contenders of which I can expect that they may have some time right at this moment. This may spare issues for the other half (they will receive an email with a next version if needed). Didn't yuo receive an email just now, but are you waiting for the job at this moment, please let me know !
Notice that the email is sent to the email address known to the forum. Pedal, that's not a nice thing; I hope you can get it fixed. But is that in your summer house ?:whistle: Title: Re: Wanted : 20 Beta Testers Post by: Leo on July 27, 2012, 10:30:02 am did not receive an email

Regards and thanks, Peter Title: Re: Wanted : one or two more Beta Testers Post by: PeterSt on July 28, 2012, 05:17:43 pm I am now looking for a few people more to test the Activation Procedure; the reason is that I need "systems" which did not contain earlier 0.9z-7 attempts, which by now confuse.
Thanks ! Peter Title: Re: Wanted : 20 Beta Testers Post by: PeterSt on July 28, 2012, 06:56:12 pm To be clear : This is also allowed to be someone who already anounced himself in this topic, but never downloaded 0.9z-7 yet (or at least stayed far away from executing XXHighEnd.exe in there). I just need that 0.9z-7-clean environment (and having unzipped it but nothing else is Clean).
Title: Re: Wanted : 20 Beta Testers Post by: toddn on July 28, 2012, 09:12:48 pm I'd be glad to help out. I just feel bad because I've gotten so much help from everyone's dialogue on the site and I have yet to contribute.
I've really been trying sort out some gremlins, such as bypassing input transformers on some of my electronics that the NOS1 made so obvious, that I didn't want to give my opinions on what I was hearing. And again to all of you that have helped exponentially improve my listening experience by your posts, I could never thank you enough. Well, we know none of this would ever be possible without Peter so I never take that for granted!!! Todd Title: Re: Wanted : 20 Beta Testers Post by: BertD on July 28, 2012, 10:11:27 pm Okay, I volunteer... I already made a restore point to go back to the previous settings.

Mani. Title: Re: Wanted : 20 Beta Testers Post by: PeterSt on July 29, 2012, 08:29:56 am Stay put Mani. You are valuable right now. :)
Thank you Todd, thank you Bert. I will be back with the three of you later. Title: Re: Wanted : 20 Beta Testers Post by: GerardA on July 29, 2012, 11:14:43 pm Peter. I'd like to test the new version too but am still for a week in Italy. :heat: :heat: Have to hurry home!
Title: 20 Beta Testers : Your 0.9z-7 Release Notes Post by: PeterSt on August 12, 2012, 08:42:14 pm With a super thanks to all of you who helped so greatly - and with 0.9z-7 around the corner (oh, is that so ? :swoon:), here is a preview of the 0.9z-7 Release Notes which hopefully allow you to do a few things in advance of the official release compared to others. Hey, you earned it !! Thanks a lot ! Peter Notice : In this version the small vinyl like ticks in between tracks (only for tracks with gaps in between them) exist. Finally 0.9z-7 is out. Never before so many changes have been applied to the software. Also, never before the changes implied extensive outlay for even one new subject, while this time there are many. Therefore you will see links within the Release Notes, referring to a "manual" section in the forum. So, the Release Notes and way more extensive than they already are. It is to be expected that this 0.9z-7 version is not bug-free, and we encourage you to mention whatever it is you find in the forum, and please open a new topic for each bug, remark or question and give it a recognizable title. As you will see, many features are User Interface related, and while useful and nice in general, the aim of it is using a Tablet for Remote Control. Also, it should be a joy now to start up XXHighEnd and see whatever it is you made of it yourself. Expectations about change of Sound Quality : all over and from various angles; What you will learn is that Music Reproduction through loudspeakers by means of a PC has achieved another giant leap forwards; in a few weeks time you will notice how "distorted" the sound has been, even with XXHighEnd which was considered to be the best out there already anyway. But it could be bettered. Below, only the most prominent changes and bug fixes are mentioned; Especially in the bug fixes area there are a dozen or two more but weren't mentioned because it only creates text to read over, and they will be obvious anyway. SQ Related changes
User Interface changes A huge overhaul has taken place and it should lead to having a great time creating a few things yourself, to next just look at it full of joy. For the largest part this is up to you. Now, let's see :
General
Known issues emerged from this version :
Watch out : There's a new version of XX.ahk (AutoHotkey config file) supplied with this version. Not activating this for 0.9z-7 *will* cause anomalies. Switch Off UAC (User Account Control) before any first attempt of starting XXHighEnd.exe ! For W7 this means : set the slider in there to the lowest position. And don't forget to reboot after setting it Off. If you are new, follow the little guide which will appear on the screen right after the first startup of XXHighEnd.exe, and perform the steps shown in there. These steps will be at least about the red coloured fields in the Settings Area. If you don't want to end up reinstalling your OS, read this first : Minimize OS - How to start with that (http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=1810.msg18425#msg18425). Do it ! Kill XXEngine3.exe from memory (TaskManager) before your execute the XXHighEnd.exe from this version. Title: Re: Wanted : 20 Beta Testers Post by: praphan on August 13, 2012, 10:31:34 am Hi Peter,
Lots of materials to read. I skimmed through them and found to be very informative and well written. Now it unveiled something that I couldn't imagine (or I might miss it somewhere in the forum) but it is crystal clear for me now as to the RDC chain : Audio PC -> BlueTooth -> Intermediate PC -> WiFi -> Remote. This is why we need a pair of bluetooth dongles. The problem is that I did not get the dongle software driver by mail from you. I received those dongles for quite some time already. The Phase Alignment piece is very interesting and I found that during my test of this new feature I hardly had it engaged even though I set the digital volume as high as -9 db. I did get the sign *~* once but never come back again. I have never got any plop so far. So not sure that I ever gets it engaged. I am sure this feature will be widely discussed in a dedicated topic. I wonder if this is "Nobel" feature we are talking about? Looking forward to the driver. Thanks for the well documented release note. Best regards, Praphan Title: Re: Wanted : 20 Beta Testers Post by: Calibrator on August 13, 2012, 10:52:11 am The problem is that I did not get the dongle software driver by mail from you. I also haven't received the drivers, so I suspect Peter is holding them until he is satisfied all the relevant bugs related to its operation are sorted. Still plenty of other aspects to keep us occupied :) Cheers, Russ Title: Re: Wanted : 20 Beta Testers Post by: praphan on August 13, 2012, 11:05:09 am Roger that Russ,
Thanks, Praphan Title: Re: Wanted : 20 Beta Testers Post by: Scroobius on August 13, 2012, 12:18:16 pm Peter - in the instructions written so far you only mention using Audio PC -> BlueTooth -> Intermediate PC -> WiFi -> Remote.
For those of us intending to simply use a laptop for remote control presumably this simply involves using RDC on the laptop to remote control the PC/XX? Seems simple it is just that it is not specifically mentioned. I guess for us laptop users the question is about the Bluetooth range i.e. which class of Bluetooth is being used? P Title: Re: Wanted : 20 Beta Testers Post by: boleary on August 13, 2012, 01:42:01 pm Thanks Paul, my thoughts exactly.
Title: Re: Wanted : 20 Beta Testers Post by: praphan on August 13, 2012, 02:22:26 pm I understand that OSK doesn't work on laptop. Still rely on touch pad working in the generic XXHE GUI if only laptop in use.
Regards, Praphan Title: Re: Wanted : 20 Beta Testers Post by: PeterSt on August 13, 2012, 05:00:41 pm Hi Praphan,
Nobody received those drivers yet; it didn't seem fair to me that a few have them (the beta testers) while the others do not. So indeed like it was suggested by Russ : first 0.9z-7 must be out officially. Regards, Peter Title: Re: Wanted : 20 Beta Testers Post by: PeterSt on August 13, 2012, 05:05:05 pm Quote For those of us intending to simply use a laptop for remote control presumably this simply involves using RDC on the laptop to remote control the PC/XX? Seems simple it is just that it is not specifically mentioned. Hi Paul - I think it is. This is because you imply the "Networked" situation. And that is mentioned explicitly. But otherwise it's the same. The laptop connects to the Audio PC via Bluetooth. So, what now is NOT needed in that situation is WiFi anywhere. However, following the further rules it just would be allowed; from Laptop to whatever means (if only not in the Audio PC). But that would be for means outside XXHighEnd then. So, allowed but not part of the subject. Right ? Peter Title: Re: Wanted : 20 Beta Testers Post by: PeterSt on August 13, 2012, 05:07:30 pm I understand that OSK doesn't work on laptop. Still rely on touch pad working in the generic XXHE GUI if only laptop in use. Praphan, It works, but is not made for it (try it and you will see). But here too ... there's no relation. So, when you want to use Alt-N for the next track, well, you "type" Alt-N. No such thing exists on a Tablet ... (except for OSK means). Yes ? Peter Title: Re: Wanted : 20 Beta Testers Post by: praphan on August 14, 2012, 07:33:32 pm Hi Peter,
Is the official release of 0.9z-7 identical to beta version 709? In other words, should the beta tester reload the official version just released today? Thanks, Praphan Title: Re: Wanted : 20 Beta Testers Post by: PeterSt on August 14, 2012, 07:42:28 pm Good question Praphan ! No it sure is not. We ended at 0.9z-717 today, and that only because one of you 20 experienced something which the other 19 did not. This is also why we can expect more "problems". But maybe it's okay ...
If you feel all right with your 0.9z-707 then just go ahead with that. Regards, Peter |
