entire error message reads

Error : Class not registered(Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040154 (REGDB_E_CLASSNOTREG))

when trying to run 0.9-z6

I just built a dedicated xxHighEnd machine
PC:
AMD phenom x6
6GB ram ddr3 1600mhz (or maybe 10GB havent figured out why 2 of the 4GB sticks are showing up as 2GB sticks everywhere but when looking at the part #'s)
vista ultimate 64bit

HI-FI:
Jolida Glass FX DAC
Jolida JD-801A
KIMBER Kable 8tc
Focal (JM Labs) Cobalt 815s 3-ways

I haven't finished download all the updates so I think this may be because I dont have them all installed yet

research has given me 2 possible causes so far

I'm hoping after the updates finish the problem solves itself, I'm anxious to start dialing in the system with SQ being the one and only mission

So alas no finishing the updates did not fix the issue :sad:

oh well, im off to my visual basic programming class

when I get home I might try a fresh install of Vista, I think I may have been a little aggressive when uninstalling program features

maybe a fresh install untweaked with a fresh highend install solve all my problems

If you are putting together a dedicated music server, (which is the best way to go), it is strongly recommended you go with Win7 X64, per Peter's release notes for 0.9z-6


The error you are seeing may well be because you are starting it under Vista. I say that because I am seeing the same message when installing on the Win8 preview (which I started to trial earlier today). That error message hasn't appeared while installing on a vanilla install of Win7.

Well Andrei, your idol seems to be causing you problems ! But thanks for those kind words.

I would say something must have happened earlier on. Most probably during the very first starup of XXHighEnd on this OS. And, most probably around that "Phasure OSX Install" you will (or should have) seen pass by in the early stages of that first startup.

- Is there a "Phasure OSX" visible in your installed programs ? It should.

If it is there, uninstall it.

Switch off UAC (User Account Control) (but you should have, because there is a cgeck for that built in).

Preferrably copy your XX folder to a fresh new folder.

Now start XXHighEnd and carefully watch all the messages which pass by. When things don't work later, I'd like to know these messages.
Do notice that the Phasure OCX install goes a tad too silent before it is finished. So, always wait for further things to happen, and do not start XXHighEnd first again.

I can't make up much more at this moment without further feedback. Ok, better do *not* mangle with that OCX stuff you read in the link you gave. This was with an older version (ok, unless you ever have had installed that version, but I don't think so).

Peter, have to admit I know nothing about you but I wish I could spend my days squeezing reality for the best possible listening experience. (Maybe after a few more years of math, waves and materials classes. You're living my dream...)

I just finished a fresh format:partition:install of Vista (as well as began downloading a free copy of win 7 64-bit thank you student MSDN account)

this time ill do a much more controlled install, get all the updates and drivers installed, uac disabled and a fresh install of .09-6z when its all done (as opposed to the impatient haphazard approach i tried before) if I encounter any errors I'll be sure to get some screen shots for posterity

and if it doesn't work I guess I get to play with Windows 7 a bit

What does this mean ? I'm merely expecting you to tell something like

Now it seems that you are telling some auto-reboot occurs. If so : not good (and no clue why).

- Shut off these auto updates !! (nobody wants those)

- Run as Admin is not necessary and can even create problems (depending on the OS). Shut off UAC should always be ok and sufficient.

Summarized for now : Despite your extensive descriptions, I don't see the sequence of happenings. Maybe start by telling what your "restart" means.

OK SO everything works (under my fresh vista install) now!

i ended up uninstalling the OCX files with the setup program then copying them to the \\windows\SysWOW64

manual regsvr32 successfully registered the OCX files

XXHighEnd then started with no hitches besides my own retardation trying to activate on the dedicated PC but I did figure it out with all of the excellent info here on the forum

now if microsoft's MSDN would let me download Windows 7 as opposed to just saying its going to.

Ok, I will admit that I'm a bit lost on this. So, this is a Vista 32 bit now, right ?

What made you decide to install those OCXes manually ? I don't recognize a thing of this ! Especially not if you have to copy it yourself in the WOW64 stuff.

So ... I am not implying at all that you did something wrong (the contrary), but the *why* intrigues me. Yea, you could say "because it wouldn't work otherwise". But this really would be a new thing for the latest versions ...

And why Vista ? (maybe I must read back in the topic now :))

its vista 64-bit, and basically the fix you worked back when you were having the issue with an earlier build worked for me when I figured out it was the 64 bit system folder i needed to install the ocx files in

Something looks seriously wrong then. :yes:

But now I think of it ... putting those files in there to next register them, won't have done a thing by itself (the putting them in there). It's even the wrong place ...

but

Never mind.

BUT

Keep this in mind !

I mean, a next time you might run into specific problems. Maybe not specific to how you got it running, but because something must be wrong. Again, never mind for now, but think of it a next time you encounter strangenesses (could be an OS upgrade).
