Title: BIOS Settings for the Phasure NOS1 (not the USB version !)
Post by: PeterSt on March 14, 2011, 04:12:03 pm

The below does NOT count for the NOS1 USB version !

As it turns out, too many people run into some sort of "PCI Speed" problems, which I ever had myself;
Back then it seemed just my new PC, but by now I can tell that it is a general problem of some sort, unrecognized so far (Google etc.), but which problem really seems to be there. It is BIOS related and seems to have its influence from various settings of which you see the list below. All I can say is that for the 4 people who ran into this kind of problem, giving them the below list helped.
Otherwise there has been one occasion of the symptom occurring after changing some harddisks and installing a new OS. Flashing the BIOS helped here ...

Symptoms

a.
Sound which starts to break up a couple of minutes playing into a track. Depending on the below combination of settings, this can start right away, or later. In all cases it will happen at some point, and keep on playing will end up in totally distorted sound.

b.
Slomotion sound. This is harder to recognize, because with some experience you can recognize this is not slomotion sound at all, but just the missing of a lot of samples. The effect is almost the same as slomotion sound, weren't it for the severe distortion which comes along with this.

c.
Strangely jumping VU meters in the soundcard's control panel (at not playing), up to the meters giving a full readout while no sound can obtained from it (when attempted). Stalls may go along with this, up to sudden reboots.

Above a, b and c may come together or stand alone.

The involved BIOS settings

My own settings are between the braces. The both "Possibly" denotations are highly suspect.

- Either Firefire support or USB3.0 support (or both); (now both Off)
- Possibly normal (Legacy) USB support; (now Off)
- Hardware Prefetching; (now On)
- CPU Speed; (now Max (no overclocking))
- C1E support; (Now Off)
- Possibly PCI Memory Remapping; (now Off)

From the reports of others, I do not recognize a relation to the motherboard brand.

Hope this helps someone.
