Title: New approach to XX required Post by: manisandher on February 22, 2011, 07:33:29 pm Hi All,
Unfortunately, I can't share in the fun of evaluating 0.9z-4-1... well not for another few days at least. I'm really looking forward to doing so though. But Peter must be one of the most non-commercially minded people in the whole of the audio industry. I mean, who on Earth alienates more and more potential customers by increasing the complexity of a product with each iteration? Of course, we all know why Peter does this - the pursuit of better sound. And I for one am so glad that he does. However, I think the time is nigh where XX should be shared with the masses. The idea here would be to take out all the 'geeky' elements of XX and permanently set the multitude of current parameters to some 'best practice' settings. Also, perhaps work on the GUI to make it ultra easy to use. If XXLite were to sound even half as good as XXFull, I think it could be a great success... Mani. But for some explanation : The worse part is the outlay itself (in the release notes), and not even all that much about the useage itself. But the problem is : I will not have trust on myself alone, and I think nobody should. So, the only way to discover the "ultimate settings" is to lay them out so maybe a few people will understand and help improving. Later ... when all is set and done, maybe no single dial will be there. Also look how things go : I start to explicitly support RAMDisks and stuff (same for the SSD), and it only adds fields (like Copy to XX drive in this case). It only needs to sortout this RAMSSD :) stuff to have the field removed forever. Whether it's always active under the hood or just not, is something else. So for now it just needs it. Ok, it takes a bit long, this beta version, but I also think it's fairly clear that it is needed. Fow now. Don't hesitate to bering this up again, or to proceed on it here. But your previous hint about it really was heard (working on it ! :veryhappy:), as will be next ones. Peter |
