Title: Mixed / Contiguous Memory Post by: easternlethal on January 22, 2011, 04:42:25 am Sorry I have not been able to get either of the 'Contiguous' modes to work (always get the 'privileges' warning). I've tried adjusting the SFS, playing in unattended mode, playing immediately after reboot etc. Is it because I am on a dual-core, 32-bit system?
Would upgrading to i7 / 64-bit help (I mean only with respect to SQ)? Any thoughts welcome. By the way Peter, thanks for the recommendation for SP1. It is much much better than W7 in my system (more 'stable' - less glitches and prone to going all 'fuzzy' at low Q settings). I hope the final build retains this. Title: Re: Mixed / Contiguous Memory Post by: PeterSt on January 22, 2011, 10:16:31 am I think you should get the messages about the Privileges only when attempting Straight Contiguous ? But ok, let's see what is the matter here;
1. open Control Panel->System->Administrative Tools->Local Security Policy; 2. in left panel, open "Local Policies" and click on "User Rights Assignment"; 3. in right panel, double-click "Lock pages in memory". Is your username (the one you use to login) listed there ? And if not, but a user name is there, can you recognize it somehow ? what is it (tell me but also tell me "your" username (could be by PM, this one) ? If all looks right - do you actually login with a password ? if not, maybe it helps if you create one ? If all of the above does not help, you can add your userid manually, but this is not really the idea. So you can do it, but I'd really like to sort this out (later). For now (but please try the above first) : 4. Click on 'Add User or Group' and in the popup click Advanced and then click Find Now: this will show all 'users' (most are 'system users'): double-click on one you are using to log-on. 5. close all dialogs with OK & make sure you appear in the list in step 3. 6. reboot (so Windows can activate our new policy). Does it work now ? Let me know what you found, Peter Title: Re: Mixed / Contiguous Memory Post by: easternlethal on January 22, 2011, 12:42:23 pm Here's an image of the lock page. The name in there isn't the one I used for login. When I log in I use 'Jules' as the log in name and there is a password.
I do get the 'privileges' message under mixed contiguous too. Thanks a lot for your help! much appreciated. Title: Re: Mixed / Contiguous Memory Post by: PeterSt on January 22, 2011, 12:49:48 pm LOL!
I'm sorry if I forgot, but is your PC "chinese" (etc.) organized ? But ok. Wat happens if you add "Jules" there yourself ? Don't forget to reboot after adding this ! Title: Re: Mixed / Contiguous Memory Post by: PeterSt on January 22, 2011, 12:51:55 pm Btw, at least that seems to be 6 "characters" (like in Jules).
Title: Re: Mixed / Contiguous Memory Post by: easternlethal on January 22, 2011, 01:15:54 pm Ah that works now! thanks very much. MY PC is not organised in Chinese at all, and I was not able to find those characters when looking in the list of users to add. The funny thing is the 'Jules' is not in the list either, but there was one for 'Administrator' and 'Everyone', which I added, and it all works now.
Thanks for your help! I had to set the SFS to 20 to get it playing in special mode. Title: Re: Mixed / Contiguous Memory Post by: PeterSt on January 22, 2011, 02:14:36 pm Hmm ... strange.
If anyone else runs into something like this, can you please let this know ? I guess there's more than I currently know, although those chinese (?) characters smell to something wrong in the PC in the first place (the obtained username officially being approved at obtaining it). Of course it's fairly easy to ask for the username, but I thought it could be done automatically. If that isn't the case always ... So let me know please. Peter Title: Re: Mixed / Contiguous Memory Post by: easternlethal on January 25, 2011, 10:54:50 am Peter - I am now able to play in Mixed and Mixed Contiguous modes, but I still can't get Straight Contiguous. I get the 'lower your SFS' error message until I get down to SFS=2, and then when I select SFS=2 or below I don't get any sound and the 'No Track Given' error message pops up.
Any suggestions? are my PC specs too low? I only have 2GB ram. Title: Re: Mixed / Contiguous Memory Post by: PeterSt on January 25, 2011, 06:45:13 pm Yes, it is very well possible that with a too low SFS things won't play, and then depending on your overall system performance. It also can well be that if you try a couple of times it works afterall (but nothing to depend on in that case).
But it also can be something completely different ... You can post your X3 and X3PB log files ... maybe I can get something from it. Ok, post the XX as well. About the 2GB, yes, that really seems too few for Straight Contiguous. It's already quite difficult with 3GB (at least for Vista/32 it is), and might you next want to use a RAMDisk as well ... forget it. Not of much help I'm afraid ...
