Title: cannot run as administrator anymore
Post by: Flecko on July 18, 2010, 06:57:44 pm
Hi Peter,
administrator mode doesn't work anymore. It say" XXHIghend stopped working" and in details
Problemsignatur:

If I start the program normal, there is no problem. I didn't changed anything. The only thing that was changed, was a windows update. Any idea how to solve?

Hi Adrian,

Strange ... What happens if you apply what I wrote in here : Re: install problem (http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=1333.msg12137#msg12137) ?

Ah ... and I can imagine this is related to running that Setup under the scope of "Administrator". And, I see you did not apply the "general" uplevelled rights but apply it per program you start (like XXHighEnd). I can imagine that this doesn't coorporate nicely. So in either case, run that setup As Administrator too, and let me know whether that helps.

Peter

I uninstalled phasure and reinstalled it as administrator. I still does not work. The strange thing is, that it worked all the time and now suddenly there is this error...???

Must think ...

Edit : Do you know what Windows update that was ?

Do you know what Windows update that was ?
At 17.07.2010 Update for windows defender - KB915597 (Definition 1.85.2136.0)
At 15.07.2010 Windows Tool for "remove of dangerous software" (in german " zur Entfernung bösartiger Software" )
At 15.07.2010 Security update for windows 7

I am not sure if the error occured the first time on sunday or saturday.

I tried diagnostic startup but even then it is not working. I will try to remove the updates and see what happens.

The same problem I had last week on friday with a different system (Dell Notebook with Vista home). As far as I remember I tried it on this system a while ago and I think there was this error before. So the updates might not be the reason.

I removed the update. It had nothing to do with it. As the error occured the first time, I "played" with windows media player, creating a playlist. I started xxhe parallel without stopping wmp. I think that was, when it first happend. I don't know if this helps. I guess not very much :(

So, now a better clue. xx9y4 and 9y8 start as administrator. The problems comes with 9z. So it might be not the setup. Maybe the new gui?

Oh, sure that is related. But are you now telling me that you never got 0.9z running ?!

Anyway, did you try this "general means" of upleveling the rights ? See  Vista Users ... prepare yourselves ... (http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=209.0)

A good. But strange, and not much comfortable. I'm not done with this yet. :aggressive:

But can you tell me, what actually went wrong without running as Administrator ? Did you notice anything ?

There were two a masseges. One, that something is not possible because of the rights and one that says I don't run xxhe as administrator and there is sound degradation. The program worked fine.

I think maybe there went something wrong in your .NET framework update, if this was updated.
Maybe this helps a bit !?

Thank you Roy. I unsinstalled the named updates and uninstalled .net framework. After that, I used .net cleaner and restarted. It had no effect on xxhe. It still doesn't start as administrator :(

Do things change if you uninstall Phasure, and next run "As Administrator" the setup.exe (which is for that same Phasure) from your xx folder ?

No change. Setup runs as administrator and installs successful but xxhe still don't start as administrator.

Title: Re: cannot run as administrator anymore
Post by: PeterSt on July 26, 2010, 12:45:30 pm
Well, maybe you can Google for it. That is, assuming that this is caused by some MS update (what we don't know for sure), while *you* know the best how exactly things changed for you (meaning : I won't do the Googling).

Notice that with W7 several (new) levels of UAC exist (compared to Vista), including a few registry hacks. At the time I looked at it I didn't understand a f*ck of it all, and ended up with the same settings as I had in Vista. But it is clear to me that it easily can happen that you ended up in one of those vague compination of UAC settings, wheter it was you who did it, or an upgrade of something.

When you start changing things in there, always reboot after a change, with the notice of W7 *not* always telling you to dom while it really is necessary !

I uninstalled all updates to 20.06.10. This is a long time befor this error happend. I rebooted after uninstalling but it didn't helped. But you never know what stays in the system after uninstalling. I can not make a clear connection to changes on windows and the point where xxhe stopped working. That is not a good situation to solve this, I know.

I googled but there are a lot of different posts respective to this error. A complete reinstall might "solve" the problem but that involves, that the error happens again and all the work was in vain. All other programms work without problems. So, this can not be a generall problem. And as I said, I tried different versions to get a clue. This happens since version z. "Every" older xxhe works fine.

It surprises me nobody else has this problem, except the one guy(the one you gave me the link to). I have the same problem on a very different PC (notebook of a friend) with Vista32 home.

Do you use autoupdate or do you have the newest updates?

Thank you Adrian.

I don't like this at all;

I have the same problem on a very different PC (notebook of a friend) with Vista32 home.

So, I don't like this, because if one person immediately has a friend with the same, he might coincidentally telling about it, while 100 others who try XX for the first time don't say anything, but pass on.

The problem with the other guy (rediazvh) is not solved. Not even after a 100 emails back and forth, and I actually had to give up. He has Vista Basic though, and possibly nobody is using that, and *that* may be the "cause" somehow. But his friend has W7.

Please notice that the problems of you both only look related, but possibly are not the same at all.

Ok, in your case disabling UAC just helps and you have no problems. Correct ?
Thank you very much for your help.

Adrian, allow me to continue with this a bit ...

Here is a debug version : http://www.stordiau.nl/downloads/XXHighEnd-09-z2b-01.zip
(this contains a XXHighEnd.exe to paste over a 0.9z version; save your current XXHighEnd version).

When all is right, small messages will appear with 001, 002, a, b, c etc. etc.
Just keep on clicking away those messages until it dies. I want to know the last number etc. which was on the screen.
The first time, just do it rather quickly, so you will have an idea where it dies. Next do it again so you can go quickly through the first bunch, but start concentrating and slow down when you are close to where it dies. There may be dozens of these messages.

I hope this is going to help ...
Peter

I looked closer to this one, and found a change from 0.9y-8 to 0.9z which may be related. Of course this can't be the real cause for something which "just stopped working" at your side, but it may solve it.

Please try this one and let me know (paste it over your 0.9z-2 install, but keep the old one; this 0.9z-2b-06 is not a properly working version) :

The error is different now. "Das angegebene Modul wurde nicht gefunden. (Ausnahme HRESULT:0x8007007E)".
Translation: "The indicated module was not found. (Exception HRESULT:0x8007007E).
If I start not as administrator it works.

Crazy ...
Today's administrators are allowed less as it seems.

Oh boy.

Isn't there more info at this message somehow (often there's a "detail" button) ?
And nowhere an indication of "what module" ?

In the 0.9z version, there are two .OCX files;
What happens if you put these in your current XX folder ?

Possibly nothing much ...

But if you have found these two files anyway, please try to recall what your XX folder was named when you installed 0.9z for the first time, and perform this (in this sequence !) :

- Uninstall Phasure
- Create that folder I was talking about again, and put those .OCX files in it.
- Next register them with regsvr32 [name].ocx
- Now Unregister them with regsvr32/u [name].ocx
- Start XX again (the version you downloaded from this topic)

It is a kind of long shot, but at least we tried ...

If you also could try this, with for now unknown results - but you will tell me :

Click the Start button, and type cmd.exe
Rightclick on the cmd.exe which appears
Choose Run as Administrator

Now in the dos box, type

net user administrator /active:yes

At this moment I don't know how different this will be from switching off UAC, and I also don't know whether this has to be re-done after each boot, but at least it is interesting to know whether it helps. But please try the other things first (my before post).

Thanks,
Peter

This one works! Even the normal 9z2 version is working again. I copied the ocx files and the files from C:\xxhe9z2 to D:\xxhe9z. Copying just the ocx didn't helped. After I registered the ocx files I started xxhe as administrator and the setup started. After that, xxhe started normaly. Thanks Peter! It is a littlebit strange to me, that it is working now but ok, it does and that's important.

Ha, at last !

But notice this whole sequence should have ended with UNregistering those files again.
I think after that the setup.exe in your XX folder must be run again.

Ok, thanks, and sorry for your troubles.

I've been having issues getting XXHE to run on a re-installed Vista build.  I've made some progress, thanks to your help, but now I can't get it to run in administrator mode.  It gives me the old "XXHighEnd has stopped working" error.  I'm trying to follow the unregister steps above, but can't find isanalloglibrary.ocx or isdigitallibrary.ocx.  The closest I can find are Interop.isAnalogLibrary.dll and Interop.isDigitalLibrary.dll in the xxhighend-09-z2 folder.  Where might they be?

Title: Re: cannot run as administrator anymore

I found the isanaloglibrary.ocx and isdigitallibrary.ocx files, put them in the appropriate folder, registered, unregistered, reinstalled XXHE but it still won't let me run as administrator.  When I run not as administrator, XXHE complains that I won't get good sound.  But I go ahead anyway.  Next I go to make sure that the output device is set.  I see HiFace is selected, not the KS: version, and the Engine is #3.  However, KS Mode and Buffer Size are not grayed-out.  I set device to KS:, and back to plain HiFace, and all  now appears right and ready to go. I hit play and I get TEMP ERROR B and BUFFER TOO LARGE.  The track appears to be playing anyway, but no sound.  It's only 3:54 in the afternoon, but I think cocktail hour will start early today!

Sorry… me again.  Well that was a waste of time.  I completely reinstalled Vista and I’m faced with all the same problems.  Every one of them.  The only good news is I’m listening to music again, only this time through J. River.  They have a pre-release version that has a new Wasapi-Event mode which sounds pretty good… better than I recall previous versions sounding.  Importantly, it worked right out of the box.  Now the question is: would it sound better on Windows 7 than Vista!

Title: Re: cannot run as administrator anymore
Post by: PeterSt on October 04, 2010, 05:58:21 am
Hi Dan,

I don't know whether you got it from this topic, but in the end it isn't necessary to run "as administrator". That is, IIRC Flecko could play allright, but just couldn't do (start) it the same way as before. Until all was solved of course.

I disabeld the uac and now it works again. Strange, it worked all the time with uac. But thanks Peter! Is disabeling of uac also important for soundquality?

So, for Flecko now all was allright. The only thing is that this wasn't necessary for him, before (disabling UAC).
And SQ really doesn't change from this way of working (= disabling UAC, which avoids the necessity to Run as Administrator).
Ehh ... in W7 ? Oh boy ...

Let me comfort you a little and if ever possible : I now have problems myself at getting my system running without ticks. No clue what it is (yea, a new mobo, new processor, 628,000 new drivers installed).

After you made this complete new install ...
I assume you started out with 0.9z-2 ?
And then immediately you had the error ?
And you shut off UAC in advance (!) of everything ?

Peter

PS: How did you end up in this topic ? I mean, this is only about "can not run as administrator anymore" (see my first comment above), while you just have that error and merely should be in here : 0.9z Install problems (http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=1254.0;all) ?
But I guess for now my questions above are important. :scratching:

So this was Engine#3.
Did you use the appropriate HiFace driver ? (I assume Yes)
Can your Q1 have been set to a value you didn't expect ? It seems that no "Buffer too large" can come from it, but still.
But more importantly (see first question) : why the KS: drivers weren't there ? If you think they should, I think it can be the Run as Administrator thing. A bit of a long shot though.
Did you ever use Engine#3 with the HiFace ? (sorry if this question comes stupid to you)

Peter,

I got the temp error B and buffer to large messages too.
It happened when I changed from engine 4 to 3.
An album with 8 flac songs stopped after processing song 7 and gave the messages and stopped playing.(Actually it never started)
I guess it is the preprocessing that's doing this?
(Vista with hiFace).

Title: Re: cannot run as administrator anymore

Thank you for this info Gerard;

Although I can't look into the program right now, to me it seems impossible that this actually happened during playback, unless this was Attended Playback (was it ?). And then still, something must have gone "wrong" at the end of track 7, so Engine3 restarted (which is possible). In that case I think you should have had an abnormal long silence before the message came up.

But to be clear : did you ever heard sound from Engine#3 and the HiFace ? or was it like you seem to tell, right after you switched to Engine#3 (which would have been after track 7) ?

Please let me know.
Peter

Hi Peter,

I never heard sound from Vista/engine 3/hiFace.
The problem happens after I click play. The songs get greyed out one by one (slowly) and after track 7 nothing happens for a while and then the two messages pop up.
After that a long message and engine 3 stopped message.
It is unattended but still in the startup phase.
Hope this helps!
Back to engine 4 everything is normal.
But with stutters that look related to a high cpu-usage that I did not look in to yet.
Maybe micosoft looking for updates or not tweeked to death yet...

For Dan : This looks like it just can't work for Vista ? Or at least not with the drivers you and Gerard are using.

If time permits I will look into it myself, later today.

For all other people,

Dont destroy your current W7 install, just add a partition/dual boot or use an extra drive to install Vista.
If problems do occur, you still have your "old" install, so you can still enjoy your music, untill problems are solved.

And this way you can do some testing for yourself.

Roy

Title: Re: cannot run as administrator anymore
Post by: PeterSt on October 04, 2010, 01:11:25 pm
A very good advice Roy.

Btw, creating a dual boot is not difficult, if you only have some free space (15GB for a full Vista version) on the original OS disk;
Go to Computer - Manage, rightclick on the OS disk, and choose Shrink. Keep in mind that the original OS partition must have some additional space as well (something like 5GB for an audio-only PC).
Don't format the now free space, for better recognition (below).

After this, stuff in the OS CD/DVD in the CD Drive, and let it boot from there;
Just choose the "install" option (not Upgrade), though "Advanced".
Now it will come up with a "where", and you appoint the "unallocated space" on the original disk.
10 minutes later you will be up and running.

Shut off UAC.

Lastly, create some necessary icons, just by referring to the data on the original disk. Like for XXHighEnd.exe (just copy to Desktop from within the original folder) and AutoHotkey (don't forget to update the icon's properties with the "xx.ahk" parameter, prefixed with its location).
Within XXHighEnd denote the original folders (they will now most probably be on another drive letter), set the other settings, and maybe tweak your Vista to the ultimate death again.
Of course don't forget to reinstall your soundcard drivers.

All 'n all it should be less than 30 minutes work, and you'll have sound again.
And the old install of course (choosable at boot time).

Peter

Gerard,

Are you sure you don't get any sound at all?  When I try to use Engine 3, I get sound for about half a second, and then the sound stops and I get the TEMP ERROR B and BUFFER TOO LARGE errors.  The track keeps progressing though, but without sound.  My Q1 is set to 14 and all other Q's are at 0.  When I switch to Engine 4, it plays no problem.

So our experience is the same, only different!  I finally gave up and reinstalled Windows 7 which is working flawlessly.  However, I have a second (lesser) sound system with a Vista PC, and without doing any scientific testing, I can hear that the music seems more relaxed.  So just to torture myself I'm trying to reinstall Vista in my primary system.  Unfortunately it's not going well!  See my other post.  I've never had half as much trouble getting a new installation of an OS to work.
