Title: 09-z1 and AP x 4 16 bits Post by: tillen on June 18, 2010, 11:30:23 am Hello
I have a problem with the dac settings in 09z-1, when I set the dac is 16/192 in 09z it plays well with AP x4, but 09z-1, XX will not play with the same settings, all other settings are equal. Title: Re: 09-z1 and AP x 4 16 bits Post by: PeterSt on June 18, 2010, 05:45:42 pm Hi,
Well, not so long ago I added to my internal buglist that it was possible for some combinations to Double/Quad 16 bit files together with upsampling (like Arc Prediction does). But, this is not allowed ! And so, in between the lines (while everything has been turned upside down for the 24 bit Upsampling) it is possible that I eliminated that already. And if not earlier, then today or tomorrow ... Yes, I can imagine that you don't like that with an 16/192 DAC (I derive this from your post), but it really wouldn't be good to perform any means of upsampling with 16 bits. Notice that normal upsampling (like Linear could do it) x2 requires 1 additional bit already. However, Arc Prediction works in "32 bit float" mode, and nothing is in there to decimate this to 16 bits again. In other words, you will be dealing with huge rounding errors, and it really can't be good !! Also please notice this cannot change because of the inherent 32bit float operation of Arc Prediction. Depening on how accidentally or explicitly I eliminated it all, possibly it can be restored. But I'd really like to show all in red because it is so wrong. :) But before I look into that, what is your response to this ? Title: Re: 09-z1 and AP x 4 16 bits Post by: tillen on June 18, 2010, 06:48:10 pm I understand! My DAC has a cs chip which can receive 24 bit, but not on the usb, it was therefor a surprice that i could use the AP 16/192 in the first place, (only from the 09z of) ( I dont understand all the technical stuff). But, in my system the soundstage was better and there was a lot more air between the instruments with AP x4 + invert ticked, so to me it was better. My DAC upsample to 24/196, and i can not switch that off.
 BTW! The XXhighEnd has shown me that a low budget system can give excelent sound, and it has maybe reached the limit for now. I`m still on low budget, and the next thing in are the hiface (maybe the new one http://www.m2tech-hiface.com.au/index.php/news) |
