Title: Cover Art Sequence in center pane
Post by: arvind on June 18, 2010, 10:22:36 am
Hi Peter,

The left pane has the names of the album artist listed in Alphabetical Order. The center pane has the Cover Art of all the Albums, but it does not follow the same alphabetical order as far as the album artist. Why is this so? Is there a way to put the cover art in an Alphabetical order?

Arvind

Arvind - Are you talking about the contents of a Gallery (in the center pane) ?

In either case, can you show a screenshot that prooves what you mean ? Then I will be able to explain.

Peter

Hi Peter,

Attaching herewith the screen shot. You can see in the left pane that the first artist is 3 dog night, whereas the 1st cover art is Sting.

Now I still don't know whether this is a Gallery or not ...

Also ... your example doesn't particularly show a wrong order ... I mean, it could be that the top (above S) is just missing.
So, if you have a minute left, please show the proof of the wrong order. Ok ?

Hi Peter,

I have not created a Gallery; frankly I have no clue how to go about doing that & I dont know how that helps either. My files are stored in an external HDD & the file configuration is Z:\My Music\Album Artist\Album\Track.
When I rip my CD's with dBPoweramp I get the cover art in my album folder along with the tracks.
In XXHE I set the file path as above & I get the list of Album Artists in the left pane (in alphabetical order as you can see in the screen shot) & the cover art of each album in the center pane (starting with Sting, which you can see in the screen shot). Sting is the first cover art (open my attachment & you will be able to see that it is at the top)

My question, once again, is why are the cover art (center pane) not in the same order as the Artist Name in the left pane?

I hope I have been able to put forward my question correctly.

Arvind

Hi Arvind - Your questions are allright, but your answers are less, haha. So, now I now you are not using Libraries. Fine.
But ... where is your proof that the sequence is wrong. So far (to me) you only proove the list starts with S(ting). This is not correct, but it sure doesn't testify from a wrong sequence. Now, please show me the wrong SEQUENCE.

Peter

PS: This all doesn't need to take long, if you only answer my questions. :)

Hi Peter,

Well the Left pane starts with 3 dog night where as the center pane starts with Sting. Why are they not in the same order? I thought my question was quite obvious!!

Ok, first of all I just saw a normal alphabetical sequence in your screenshot. Well, if you look at it from bottom to top that is almost true. So, I looked wrongly. This is why I wanted the proof of something being in the wrong order, and this is why you never understood because it *was* showing a wrong order. Again, apologizes.

Well, you will be using an UDF drive here, and they don't comply to Windows whatever it is (I guess FAT32 denotes that standard). So, you most probably see the things in the sequence you added them to the disk (maybe the other way around).

If you look below, you a.o. see the sorting screen, which currently is only meant for dates. You could try the "none" option following by clicking Search to see if that helps. But I don't think so (no, it doesn't even give output, I just tried). In that case I could make it.
Since this will be rather slow, you next should store the Result List with rightclick on the button where the mouse pointer is (see below), and next you could load the middle pane from Saved Result Lists.

But ...

This doesn't allow the left pane to be used for navigating. So I guess this is no solution at all.
Not buying UDF organized disks is ...
Maybe you can look if it can be formatted normally (which would be NTFS) ?

Hi Peter,

I looked at the properties of the HDD & the file format is NTFS.

Hi Arvind,

I am afraid that doesn't say much !
Ok, what drive (or NAS etc.) are you using for this ?

And I think I know the solution :
Just select everything in there (the middle pane) and make a Gallery of it (you will be able to find it after rightclick on one of the selections). Now make that gallery on the OS disk (you can call the root the same if you want). Don't forget to point the Music Root (Settings Area) to it, and now look again. I think the sequence will be allright then.

Let me know !
Peter

Hi Peter,

I need to apologise to you, I have just found the problem. I have 2 HDD one has file format FAT 32. This gives the problem of not following alphabetical sequence. The other has file formal NTFS, which puts it in alphabetical sequence. I use the second HDD now & all is well.

Thanks.

Arvind

No need to Arvind. Besides, I was the first one doing things wrong, so you win. :)

Which tells me that standard was introduced with NTFS (and IIRC this was Windows2000), not with FAT32; Always good to know for a next time.

Thanks,
