Title: Is it possible to defeat HDCD in 9z?
Post by: DannyD on May 31, 2010, 03:38:39 pm
Is it possible to defeat the new HDCD processing functionality?  I think it's a great new feature, but my DAC is HDCD-capable so I don't necessarily need XXHE to do it.

When XXHE decodes the HDCD, what bit depth and word length does it send to the DAC?  I would think it would need to send more than 16/44.1, which (to me) means that the DAC would have to be more than 16/44.1 and the "DAC is... " setting in XXHE would have to be set accordingly.  Is that right?

Shutting off HDCD decoding will be possible in a next version (maybe "the" next).

16/44.1 HDCD encoded material will be output in 24/44.1 (32/44.1 for DAC Needs = 32) when not upsampled. And notice that in 0.9z the upsampling of HDCD will not work anyway.

Lastly, you pointed out that HDCD decoding requires a 24 bit DAC at least, and a check for that is not in there ... -> to the bug list ! :)

Thanks Dan,
