Title: 5 second pauses
Post by: boleary on March 11, 2010, 03:14:13 pm
Hi Peter, in Normal Mode in all versions since 9y--5.06 through 9y-8a I have to keep the split file size at 70 or I get 5 second "pauses" on almost every track. Interestingly, it seems to happen about 1 minute into each track. All works well though with the lowered split file size. Just for your info.

Expect to receive the Hiface today and hope to hear the virtues of Special and Adaptive modes :)

But do you mean that as soon as your Split File size is higher than 70 the pause is *always* at the same moment ? Can you please chrono that ? (because I don't believe it, haha). From there we can proceed with this.

You must be confused; it is only Thursday today, and you expect it on Friday.
Unless you mean the rocket powered one from the Netherlands of course ... :swoon:

Don't know if this helps, but I set the split file size to 100 and played four tracks. Each traCK HAD SEVERAL 5 SECOND PAUSES AND IT SEEMS THEY CONSISTENTLY START AROUND 1.5 TO 2 MINUTES INTO EACH TRACK. aTTACHED ARE ALL THE LOG FILES ASSOCIATED WITH PLAYING THOSE FOUR TRacks.....sorry about the typing.

Looks like the new "new" one will be delivered today, but, now that I've said that it will probably be delayed, given my luck....... ;)

Yes ... but ... is it correct that now the Split Size is higher, it (the interval) takes longer for the pauses to occur ?
It should ...

Can't really test now, but it seems that the higher the split file size the worse it gets. Below are the rest of the files.....don't know what happened trying to send the files before.

Allright. To me this is completely logical, BUT, somewhere this went wrong for you, because you didn't have this before. Or ... Engine#3 perhaps doesn't bug you with this ? If also, you must have changed some settings ... (the Core Appointment Scheme being the first to question). Ehh ... unless the version before 09y-5-06 work without changing settings.

Notice that what will be happening is that when a track or part of it is loaded into memory - and preprocessed, your cpu will be dealing with that alone (in your case) while music should continue playing. Of course, many experience very small hickups and the like, but they can always be tweaked out, and SHOULD be tweaked out. In your case it ends up in pure silence (as how I get it), and you may watch the cpu graph for it. Notice that to my own experience Scheme-3 works best, although Scheme-1 should work the best for theories (so, here it does NOT).

Edit : Actually, any older y-5 version says nothing because all worked very differently, and the really only measure you are allowed to compare with is Engine#3 !

Let me know what you can make of this !
