That is the same as your other post ... something wrong (and unexpected) with the Sound Devices ...

Not a nice message, I'll admit.

Just installed y-05 on my main pc (x-fi soundcard, w7 enterprise x64).
I get the same error message, and it requires 4 clicks to go away.

I changed the device din xxhe to x-fi from primary driver, but the message stays.
Tried engine3 and both no upsampling and 4x AP. All works the same.

Will try KS soon and update.

Ok, something else must be going on. Both W7 Enterprise eh ?
Not everything is in there (I know) ... and in this case it is reflecting the Registry ...

Johan (but the question may count for Telstar just the same), do you recognize that you could only play Engine#3 via the Primary Sound Device ? (just in 0.9y-4)

This is not funny.

PS: I forgot why, but I did not get Enterprise (while a normal human being would have, when he had the chance). So whatever it is, you may be in lack of it anyway.

Suppose you have 4 devices; the first one always shows as the Primary, but, the second one *is* that Primary.
Q: Could you ever play the 3rd or 4th device without changing the Primary Sound Device ?

I have only two devices, besides the primary one: xfi (analog) and xfi spdif. Both in control panel and in xxhe interface.
If changing names can help, how should i change them (sorry but it's not clear).
See attached pic.

I have those messages too ! (click 4 times to be gone)

But can it be so that #3Engine is better too!

I have something back I have missed, full firm bass, and all is controlled by amp better too.
So very big and controlled basses are back, I'am using same settings as before.
Did you changed (updated) anything.
It sounds way smoother then before, I dunno.

I thought xxHighend sounded nicer than Foobar, but I had problems with the xxHighend 09y - 5-00 version falling over periodically - after perhaps 30 to 60 minutes it was gone, no trace of it when checking what was running and I can't setting #4 Engine...

Hi Huynh - and welcome.

I would suggest that you install version 0.9y-4 and start from there. I am having different problems too with 0.9-y5-00. Use a new folder so that you do not mix up the two versions. Good luck.

G'day,

It's not running in 'demo' mode still is it? If it is, XXHE will simply disappear randomly between 10 and 30 or so minutes after startup.

Cheers,

Russ

Hi Johan,

Maybe it is not clear, but what you said is just what I suggested, because both are the same : the Primary Sound Device.
But what about the 3rd  (which actually is the 2nd) ? Can you ever use that with Engine#3 ?

I just tried with my third of the list (spdif out) and it works. i dont have a dac to connect, but no error in xxhe.
Same config as above, version y-5. You need me to try with y-4 as well?

Hey, thanks.

No, no need to try that. But something very strange must be going on.

Well, I guess it won't be important anymore when the next version is there (won't take all that long). There will be no reason for the errors suring startup, and the KS devices will be normally selectable - without hassle.

Hello,

I am having a BIG trouble here with the 09y-5. I installed it this morning. When I was trying to select the music root (an external Iomega hard disk, USB connected), the program crashed. Now Windows doesn´t recognize that drive anymore! The same with a flash drive. It says they are USB unknwon devices. I have restarted the PC, uninstalled and reinstalled all the USB controllers, to no avail. This is serious trouble.

My computer is running Windows XP. I have run many previous versions of xxhighend before. None had this problem.

I need help!!

Thanks,

Joaquin

Hi Joaquin,

First of all, I'm approaching this as seriously as you do. So, this is not funny. But next ...

How in the worls can this be related to, say, me ??

Maybe good to know : I don't change one single bit to the Registry or enything else. And, the so-called "install" does nothing more than copying files.
In other words - what in Heavens name can have happened ? There is NO WAY I will be saying "not my fault", however, I can't imagine anything that would cause this to be my fault. Nothing.

Ok ... Now, with the above in mind, maybe you are "able to" think of something else ? The Iomega may break (especially the PSU). but how can that be related to another USB device ? I'd say Not. Can USB be broken in general ? maybe, but I have never heard of that. But maybe you have both behind an USB hub which broke down ? a too simple suggestion I guess.

So, just to keep in mind (please) : XX does nothing to anything. I'm puzzled.
Peter

You might need to think about it the other way. Your USB controller on the motherboard might have failed. This prevented XXHighEnd from accessing the drive and the program crashed. You still can't use any USB devices because the controller is still bad. Do you connect the drive and devices to a front USB port on the computer? I have read that some of these are not grounded very well and with dry winter weather (at least where I live) you can get static electricity problems when you go to plug in a USB device.

G'day Joaquin,

firstly, welcome to the forum, although I'm sure the circumstances of your first post could have been under better circumstances.

I suspect you have co-incidentally fallen victim to the all too common frailness of USB under WinXP.

Have a look here ( http://www.online-tech-tips.com/computer-tips/usb-device-not-recognized/ ) for one possible remedy, but rest assured, it is almost certainly a registry error that is causing that USB device to be ignored now.

If the above link doesn't cure your problem, start googling for something like "USB device unknown" , "fixing USB devices" or similar.

Some time ago I experienced a particularly troublesome glitch similar to what you are experiencing, and I bookmarked the solution, but unfortunately I can't find that link for you now. I'm sure you will find the solution with a little googling though.

It is a fact of life that early USB controllers and XP are not as rubost as they are today. Everyone will have a problem USB device at some time. If you are old enough to recall the introduction of USB to the world by Bill Gates himself, you will understand what I mean.

Best of luck at finding the solution.

Cheers,

Russ

This is a possible cause also. Some of the earlier Intel chipsets were susceptible to physical USB controller failure caused by static discharges. It is important to always try and use the "clean" disconnect routine when dealing with USB devices. Simply unplugging an active USB is not ideal.

Russ

Hello,

I have just tried Russ´ link (it recommends unplugging the PC), and it has worked! Thanks a lot!

Now I check if 9y5 is better for me than 9y4!

What about the 0.9y-5-01 version ? -00 for sure hardly works for anyone !
(but it looks like out of memory, so if it persists with 5-01 try lowering the Split File size parameter (Settings Area, 60 should always be sufficient))
