Title: Clic-sound before every track? Post by: Tore on December 27, 2009, 08:43:06 am I can hear a small clic-sound just before every track starts. This problem are there when i use the SPDIF, no problem with USB. The SPDIF rca contact on my Dell looks bad, can that be the problem?

Ok, I have never heard of such a difference between SPDIF and USB. Such a click though, have been pestering many a long time ago. So I know what you are talking about (I think). However, in this case we should concentrate on the difference between SPDIF and USB (plus that click from long ago has been solved). Anyway, what seems a kind of logic to me is that the Q1 setting can make a difference (not that it should, but it can). Try some extremes, and see if it helps. Also, the parameter (Settings Area) "Split file at size" may influence. Try to lower it to 120 or so. If it doesn't help, set it back to where you had it. Lastly, try to switch off the swap file (virtual memory). These are all just trials and not meant to be persistent. I only need to know what helps, and from there on I may learn what is going on. When Q1 helps, let me know what you used before, and what helps. Btw, keep in mind that a best setting for SPDIF may not be a best setting for USB. Let me know ! Title: Re: Clic-sound before every track? Post by: Tore on January 12, 2010, 10:01:53 pm I use 0.9y-4 now and the problem is gone.
But now i have another problem. Before i start playing and when i click NT(next) i have to click OK in a box whid this text: Save current playlist- error during saving playlist: no admission to bane c:\!currentlyplaying.PLXX Title: Re: Clic-sound before every track? Post by: PeterSt on January 12, 2010, 10:17:08 pm This looks like you have put XXHighend in the root ! (like in c:\) and not in a sub folder.
Wrong ! Also, take care that you run everything "As administrator" (see Vista Users ... prepare yourselves ... (http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=209.msg1219#msg1219)). Post by: Tore on January 14, 2010, 12:55:35 pm I run everything "As administrator" now and the box i had to click OK on is gone. I was doing this when i started using xxhighend but it looks as Vista has changed it.
I can hear the click sound only when i clic NT, not when i play the hole album? Title: Re: Clic-sound before every track? Post by: PeterSt on January 14, 2010, 01:34:24 pm Too me that sounds logical, because Next implies a stop start of the audio stream, while playing the whole album does not (per track etc.).
But ... it should come down to just playing a track (after stopping an earlier playing track). Also note that it can be at the end of playing (thus, after clicking stop) or at the beginning (after clicking play). I assume it is the latter. Now, what you must try to find out, is whether you hear a (very) small piece of what was paying previously, or that it is just a click happening at the start of playback. This is difficult to test and to do it 100% well is to reboot the PC, switch off/on the DAC and then click Play. If you can prove that it doesn't happen in that case it should be the driver, which doesn't shut off the DAC properly after clicking Stop. Notice that theoretically and without context this just could be me (bug in the program) as well. However, I think that then USB should exhibit the same (not 100% sure !!). Lastly try (somehow) to keep track of whether this is sample rate switching related. Many DACs click on such an occasion, some even rather loud (my Fireface800 springs to mind). I also recall that starting playback may click anyway (again the Fireface), but this really is device (or driver of it) related. Notice that the USB Audio Driver is very common and NOT device related. Hope this leads to somewhere ! Peter |
