Title: Can't play from USB stick
Post by: ivo on December 07, 2009, 10:40:59 pm
Hi Peter,

It's been a while since my last visit and I come with the an error like this when I try to load into XX 3 files from USB stick (drive F:). Actually there is a folder 'muze' under F: where these 3 files reside. I tried playing with MusicRoot, but anytime I got the error below. Even tried 'Copy to XX-drive...' but the same result. Any ideas? Using the latest and greatest XX version. So, my try on playing from USB stick failed.

************** Exception Text **************
System.ArgumentException: Could not get parent path since the given path is a root directory: 'F:\'.
Parameter name: path

Looks like you have your albums in the root there, while something like \Music\MyAlbums\ is expected ...
?

Yes, I tried like this F:\folder1\folder2\files and it worked.

The question: why it does not work like F:\folder1\files? The deeper we go into folder structure the more it impacts the SQ, doesn't it? There are resources on web where it is mentioned.

Yes I know, and although I'm not sure what those reports are worth, I can imagine it matters.

The reason is that otherwise not all Coverart can be found. However ... I thought I had solved that a few versions back, and it sure is not the intention such an error pops up.
Now, I actually should mimic the behaviour in your system (hence the USB stick) in order to find where it goes wrong, but to my estimation this will be an undoable task due to the data-depedency the error emerges from. But :

If you could make a smallest example on your USB stick which lets it go wrong, and that smallest example allows to expand all folders and make a screencopy so I can see what may cause it, then I may be able to reproduce it and thus solve it.

No obligations !
Thanks,
Peter
